How to customize the Welcome hub on PS5 consoles

Find out about the Welcome hub on PlayStation®5 consoles.

The Welcome hub is available on the PS5® console home screen.

You can customize the Welcome hub with widgets and backgrounds. Widgets display information like available storage, battery levels, online friends, and more.

How to customize Welcome hub widgets

Widgets can be added, removed, resized, and moved one by one. You can also choose from preset widget layouts based on your preferences.

Add and remove widgets:

  1. Click on Edit Widgets (A) on the top of the screen.
  2. Highlight the widget you’d like to see and press X to toggle it on or off.
  1. Click on the Change Preset (B) icon at the top of the screen. 
  2. Select Preset by pressing X.

You can also create your own custom preset layout by selecting Create Preset.

  1. Click on Edit Widgets (A) on the top of the screen.
  2. Select the widget to move.
  3. Select Square.
  4. Use arrows to navigate where you’d like to place the widget.
  5. Press X to confirm the widget placement.
  1. Click on Edit Widgets (A) on the top of the screen.
  2. Select the widget to resize.
  3. Press the R1/L1 button to make it bigger or smaller.

You can change the background image on your hub and choose from images in the From PlayStation, Games, or Media Gallery tabs.

  1. Select Change Background (C).
  2. Select a background.

You can also turn on Slideshow mode to set an album as your background and rotate through images, or Showcase mode which displays a full view of your Welcome hub background when your console is idle.

  1. Select the Settings (D) icon.
  2. Go to Followed Games and select Unfollow next to the game you want to unfollow.
  1. Select the Settings (D) icon.
  2. Go to Temporary Widgets Position and select which position you’d like your temporary widgets to show up.
  1. Select the Settings (D) icon.
  2. Go to Large Layout and select Toggle on to enable large layout mode.

Select a design inspired by your favorite PlayStation console generation and apply it to your home screen and other areas.

  1. Go to Settings > System. 
  2. Select Appearance > Appearance and Sound and choose the generation design that you’d like to apply.

You can select from the following widgets (subject to regional availability).

Friend Activity
See what your friends have been playing and which trophies they’ve earned. 

Friends Online
Find out who’s online right now. 

Messages
View the latest messages from friends. 

Console Storage
See how much free space you have available. 

Trophies 
View your trophy collection. 

PlayStation®Store
Check out the latest deals and new releases. 

PlayStation®Plus
Find out what’s new on PlayStation®Plus. 

News
Get up-to-the-minute news from the world of PlayStation®. 

Accessibility
Adjust your PS5 console’s accessibility settings.
