How to reset a PlayStation™Network password

If you forget your PlayStation Network (PSN) password, you can reset it from the web or on your PlayStation console.

Reset your forgotten PSN password

  1. Go to the Account Management sign-in page and select Trouble Signing in? > Reset your password and enter your sign-in ID (email address). 
  2. You’ll be sent an email containing a secure link, which expires after 24 hours. The verification email can take a few minutes to arrive. If you don't receive it within 24 hours, please click here for more help. 
  3. Follow the secure link, fill in the requested information, and create a new password using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters.

Can’t remember your verification info?

  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In
  2. On the sign-in screen, press the triangle button, and then select Next. An email for changing your password is sent to the sign-in ID (email address) shown on this screen.

Primary PS4 password reset

If you have access to a PS4 that you have activated as your primary PS4, you can reset your password in a couple of clicks — all you need is access to your sign-in ID (email address):

  1. From the PS4 home screen, go to Settings > Account Management > Sign In
  2. On the sign-in screen, press the triangle button, and then select Next. An email for changing your password is sent to the sign-in ID (email address) shown on this screen. 
  3. Click the link in the email and enter a new password.

Change your account password

  1. Sign in to Account Management
  2. Select Security from the sidebar. 
  3. Click Edit next to Password to change your password. 
  4. Click Save to confirm your changes. 

You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Security
  2. Select Security > Password
  3. Choose and confirm the new password, then select Continue

You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

  1. Go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information and enter your password. 
  2. Select Security > Password
  3. Create and confirm the new password, then select Continue

You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

Received a password change email you didn't ask for?

If you received an email telling you that PlayStation Network or Sony Entertainment Network has reset your password, this is nothing to worry about. Passwords are regularly reset in order to ensure that accounts are kept secure. Just follow the instructions on this page to reset your password.

If the email doesn't state that the reset was started by PlayStation Network or Sony Entertainment Network, someone else might be trying to access your account. We recommend that you complete the following steps to secure your account:

  1. Change the password on your email account. If you have problems doing this, please contact your email provider as soon as possible. 

  2. If you were able to change the password on your email account, follow the steps on this page to reset your account password. 

  3. Contact us as soon as you can if you can't reset your account password.

Don't have your verification information?

You need to be able to verify your identity in order to reset your password — this is to keep your account safe.

If you can’t provide the verification information that was entered when the account was set up or open the password reset email, you’ll need to contact us

Issues resetting your account password

Child accounts

Only a family manager can reset the password for a child account. Ask the family manager to sign in to Account Management on a web browser.

  • The family manager can then go to Account > Family Management. From this menu they can select your account and Reset Password
If you don’t receive an email:
  • You may have a child account that has never been signed in to PlayStation Network. The family manager can reset your password on your PS5 or PS4 console. 

  1. From the PS5 home screen, ask your family manager to select Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.

  2. From this menu they can select your local user and select Reset Password.

  2. From this menu they can select your local user and select Reset Password.
  • The email may be in your spam folder. Check your email inbox for making sure to search for 'Sony' in all mailboxes, including any spam or junk folders. 
  • Your email address may be misspelled. Repeat the password reset steps and make sure the email address shown on the “Forgot Your Password?” screen is the email address you use to sign in to your account. 
  • There may be an issue with Account Management. Sometimes network issues can delay password change emails. Check network status
