PS4 - Not enough free space in system storage

Created 30/01/2016

Hello.

Today we have bought WWE 2K16 disc game. When trying to play it for the first time, we've got error CE-33198-4: "There is not enough free space in system storage to start the application, you must free up at least 1,69 GB more space."

We have deleted several data and now we have 72,95 GB of free space. But when trying again, we get a new error code CE-35694-7, just: "there is not enough free space in system storage". We have restarted the PS4, we have turned off and on... but we always get CE-35694-7 error.

As the game's space requirement is 47 GB and we have almost 73 GB of free space, this error makes no sense.

How can we fix this? We spent 50 € and we want to enjoy our new game!!!

Thanks and regards.

When downloading a game you need double the amount of space for the initial download and install. So for a 47GB game you will need to free up at least 94GB of space.

After the install the extra space used will be made available for use again.

It's the updates for disk games that are problematic if space is an issue. Try installing the data off the disk with the PS4's internet connection disabled to prevent any updates installing simultaneously, then update afterwards after the core game is installed.

Some games are getting better at updates particularly first party games such as Uncharted and Horizon that don't require the double the space rule, worse offenders are COD WWII,Overwatch and Elder Scrolls online that requires the total file size of the game plus update x2 to actually perform an update.

Is this the same when an application won't update due to lack of space although I have around 30gb free?

Well, I've got 2tb hard drive at my ps4, plenty of free space (more then 200gb) and I've got that error message  (CE-35694-7 or CE-37704-1)all the time when I try to play new game. So I think it's software problem.

So, I recently got until dawn. I went to download it and it keeps saying that there isn't enough system storage. The game is 852 KB and I have 49.02 GB of free space. What am I doing wrong?

There is no way on god's green earth that until dawn is 852kb in size.

Anyways, if you've read the thread completely,  you know that you need twice as much space as the game size to download and install a game.

Running with less than 100GB of disk space is always going to give you issues like this. Free some space.

how do you double free space???

I mean that if my game's space requirement was 47 GB, I had to free 47 * 2 = 94 GB and then it worked.

Realizing that this thread is closed, I might have a stupid question. Would this be an acceptable approach for something smaller, say a game version update?

The same rule applies, you need twice as much space as the game size, even to update games.
