Discontinued PlayStation apps, features and services

Find out which features are no longer available on your PlayStation console.

As of June 28th 2021*, users on PlayStation Vita will no longer be able to use the messaging service. Although messaging on PS Vita is going away, your messages will still be available to you by using the messaging service on PS5 consoles, PS4 consoles, and via mobile on PlayStation App.

*Termination will start on June 28th 2021, actual date of the termination may differ by region.

We are closing PlayStation™Store on PlayStation®3 consoles on July 2nd, 2021 and on PlayStation®Vita devices on August 27th 2021. Additionally, the remaining purchase functionality for PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) will also retire on July 2nd, 2021. 

What features can I use after the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices?

Features you will still be able to access:

  • You will still be able to re-download and play previously purchased game titles.
  • You will still be able to access previously purchased video/media content.
  • You will still be able to redeem game and PlayStation®Plus vouchers.
  • You will still be able to re-download and play claimed game titles through PlayStation®Plus as long as you remain a member of the service.

Features you will lose access to:

  • You will no longer be able to purchase PS3, PS Vita and PSP digital content, including games and video content.
  • You will no longer be able to make in-game purchases through games on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.
  • You will no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers (e.g. gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita, PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close. Your PSN wallet funds will remain in your PSN account, but you will only be able to use your wallet funds to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

How do I access my owned games?
You can download your owned content onto your PS3​, PS Vita, or PSP device by accessing the Download List on the respective device.

I am only active on PS3, PS Vita, or PSP devices, and do not currently own a PS4 or PS5. What will happen to any funds left in my PSN wallet after the closure of the PlayStation™Store for these devices?
Your PSN wallet funds will remain in your PSN account, but you will only be able to use your wallet funds to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles. If you are only active on a PS3, PS Vita or PSP device, don’t use a PS4 or PS5 console, and don’t plan on using one, you may request a refund of any funds left in your wallet. We recommend that if you plan to top up your wallet prior to the store closures, you only top up by the minimum amount required to buy the desired content. We will be updating this page with more details on how to request such a refund.

Will I still be able to purchase cross-buy content following the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP?
Yes, you will still be able to purchase cross-buy content through PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles and access both the PS4 version and the PS3/PS Vita/PSP versions.

Will the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices have any impact on my PlayStation®Plus membership or PlayStation™Now subscription?
No, this will have no impact on users’ existing PlayStation®Plus membership or PlayStation™Now subscription.

Will the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices have any impact on titles that I’ve claimed through my PlayStation®Plus membership?
No, you will still be able to re-download and play claimed game titles through PlayStation®Plus as long as you remain a member of the service.

Will I still be able to redeem vouchers on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices following the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality?

  • You will still be able to redeem game and PlayStation®Plus vouchers on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.
  • You will no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers (e.g. gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita, PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.
  • Your PSN wallet funds will remain in your PSN account, but you will only be able to use your wallet funds to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

Will I still be able to download owned video content following the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices?
Yes, you will still be able to download and stream owned video content following the closure of PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices. Video content that you own can be streamed on PS3, PS4 or PS5 through the My Videos app, or on mobile devices through the PlayStation™Video app.

Thank you for using the PS Communities feature on your PS4 console. Beginning in April 2021, this feature will no longer be supported or available on your PS4 console.

However, you'll still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 and the PlayStation App.

As of October 19th, 2020 :

  • You will no longer be able to purchase PS3, PSP and PS Vita content, themes or avatars on our Web or Mobile Store. However, you can still purchase PS3, PSP or PS Vita content on their respective devices.
  • We will also be discontinuing the Wishlist and all items currently on Your Wishlist will be deleted.

Existing PlayStation Plus subscriptions will not be affected by these changes. You will continue to be able to access and download all of your existing PlayStation Plus content.

Additionally, you will still be able to access your already purchased content from your respective devices. 

As of 10/14/2020 PlayStation Messages app for mobile devices has been integrated with the PS App and will no longer be available separately. Please download the PS App for Apple or Android devices to continue sending messages to your friends.

As of 10/14/2020 creation of Events is longer available. You will not be able to create new Events, receive user scheduled events notifications or access your scheduled Events.

You will no longer be able to create a community accessible per ‘Request Only’. All new communities will be available to all users. Set up a party to communicate with your friends.

The Play Together feature will no longer be available. You will not be able to start a Play Together session from Party screen. You can continue creating parties, and talking to your friends through the Party.

Sub account creation and account upgrade features are longer available on PlayStation 3, PS Vita and PSP. You can continue to create and upgrade child accounts on PS4 and on the web.

Pluto TV is no longer be available on PlayStation 3.

You can continue to engage with Pluto TV on PlayStation 4 system, mobile devices and on the web at https://Pluto.TV

Twitch is no longer available on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita.

Starting on October 7th, 2019 Facebook integration will no longer be supported on the PS4 system. This includes Facebook’s share features such as posting gameplay and trophy activity and using the friend finder feature. We apologize for any inconvenience.

On 17 March 2020, Sony Interactive Entertainment will terminate the PlayStation Communities app provided for iOS/Android devices.

Ustream features are no longer available on the PS4 system and Live from PlayStation:

  • Broadcasting gameplay to Ustream.
  • Viewing Ustream broadcasts from “Live from PlayStation” on the PS4 system, PlayStation App and PlayStation Vita (PS Vita). 

Players can broadcast gameplay via YouTube, Twitch and dailymotion and enjoy viewing these broadcasts via Live from PlayStation.

As of January 2018 the Media Go application is no longer available to download. Users who have the application installed are still able to use it and access the support website, but the software is no longer supported and will not be available to redownload should you delete it.

As of April 2017 the PlayStation™Video service (formerly known as Video Unlimited) is discontinued on selected Sony Bravia TVs and video & audio products released in 2013 and earlier.

Please contact Sony if you require more details on models which will be affected.
