PlayStation Camera general information

This article shows you how to set up the PlayStation Camera and how to use its main features.

What does the PlayStation Camera do?

With the PlayStation Camera, you can teach your PlayStation 4 system to recognize you at a glance, use voice chat in your games or to access system commands, connect with the world via game broadcasts, and more.

How do I connect my PlayStation Camera?

Connect the PlayStation Camera cable to the PlayStation 4 via the AUX port located on the back of the system.

Place the PlayStation Camera on a level surface, with the camera itself directly facing the area where you'll be seated as you play.

  • If the camera is not recognized by the PlayStation 4 system, disconnect the camera cable, and then reconnect it. If the camera is still not recognized, turn off the PlayStation 4 system, and turn it on again.
  • You can adjust the angle of the camera up and down by manually tilting the camera. Do this by holding the right end of the camera in place, and then gently twisting the body of the camera until it's at your preferred setting.

How do I use facial recognition with my PlayStation Camera?

With your PlayStation Camera you can simply show your face to your PlayStation 4 system, and it will be able to recognize you. You can store your facial data either during PlayStation 4 system setup, or later through (Settings) > [Login Settings] > [Enable Face Recognition].

  1. When you begin the calibration process, the PlayStation Camera will search for and highlight your face. If your camera has difficulty identifying you, you can try adjusting the room brightness or changing the angle of the camera to be as direct as possible.
  2. Once your face is identified, follow the on-screen instructions for tilting your head to properly store the necessary data.
  • Only one face can be recognized per individual profile. Make sure you're logged in to the correct PlayStation 4 system profile before adding your face data.
  • Only the most recent face data stored is used. To update, go to (Settings) > [Users] > [Login Settings] > [Face Recognition Management] > [Add New Face].
  • Facial data is stored only to your PlayStation 4, and is not shared.
  • Facial recognition is not intended as a security feature. To secure your PlayStation 4 profile, be sure to add a Passcode.

How do I delete stored facial data?

  1. Go to (Settings) > [Login Settings] > [Face Recognition Management].
  2. Select [Delete], then press the  button.
  3. Choose [OK] and press the  button on the next screen to remove all data.

How do I use my PlayStation Camera while Broadcasting?

You can add personality to your live gameplay broadcasting on PlayStation 4 by using the PlayStation Camera to show your face picture-in-picture as you play.

  1. While playing a game, click the Share button on the controller and choose [Broadcast Gameplay].
  2. On the next page, choose your preferred service for live streaming. Create a new account, or log in to your existing account to set up your stream.
  3. Choose [OK] and press the  button on the next screen to remove all data.
  4. Before you start broadcasting check the [Include Video from PlayStation®Camera in Broadcast] in Broadcast options. Additionally, you can also check "Include Microphone Audio in Broadcast" to use voice chat via the PlayStation Camera while you stream.>

How do I use voice features with my PlayStation Camera?

Once your PlayStation Camera is connected to and recognized by your PlayStation 4 system, you'll be able to chat with your friends in multiplayer games, even without a headset. You can also use voice commands to interact with the system software.

To use in-game chat, ensure that voice chat is enabled for that particular game, and then simply speak aloud while playing to talk to your teammates.

  • When using a headset, the headset microphone will be recognized as the default voice input device instead of the PlayStation Camera's microphone.
  • Speak clearly and at a moderate volume for the best results.
