In the world of Metro: Last Light, a global war broke out at the end of 2013. Russia was decimated by nuclear bombs and survivors sought refuge in the Metro. Those not lucky enough to make it to the relative safety of the underground network mutated and became known as the Dark Ones, left out in the cold wasteland of Moscow for 20 years.
You play as Artyom, who has been enlisted as a Ranger, or mutant hunter and is sent on a mission to the surface to find one of the Dark Ones.
Accompanied by Anna, the Rangers' best sniper, you set out to either make peace with the Dark Ones or destroy this potential threat, meeting warring factions, forgotten settlements and monsters along the way...
The atmospheric network of the Metro is the perfect setting for this dark and foreboding tale. In amongst the darkness you'll see glimmers of humanity that make each settlement feel real. Overhear inane chatter from the inhabitants and peek into makeshift dorm rooms to see your fellow rangers playing guitar and listening to cassette tapes in their down time.
The drips and creeks of the underground are eerie in the extreme. The bulbs that would have lit the corridors before war broke out are now lifeless, and nature has begun to take hold. Whip out your lighter to scatter cobwebs and see a little further into the darkness. Danger could be around every corner.
Outside the scattered settlements, the landscape is as bleak as it is treacherous. The scarred terrain shows the destruction of nuclear war, seen through the visor of your gas mask, the only thing stopping you from breathing in a lung full of radiation.
You play through the eyes and ears of Artyom as you explore and scavenge your way through the catacombs and witness the twisting plot turns of Metro: Last Light.
With threats from mutants and humans alike, one of the most precious commodities in the game is ammunition. Military grade ammo is used as currency to purchase new guns and upgrades, making each bullet you shoot a choice between survival and wealth.
As a linear first person shooter with a focus on narrative and managing your resources effectively, never underestimate the value of scavenging. If you've just been in a frantic gun fight and emerged the victor, take a look around to see what you can gather.
