Live the life

As the rain batters the circuit at Silverstone, lights and advertisements reflect on the wet surface and the car in front sprays your windscreen with water. Meanwhile, at the Circuit de Monaco, the sun scorches the track as it winds through the hills. At just the touch of a button on PlayStation 3, you can find yourself racing on real tracks all over the world, whenever you like.

F1 2011 wastes no time throwing you into the action and immediately encourages you to live the life of a real FORMULA ONE star. You'll find yourself in front of BBC sports commentator and F1 enthusiast David Croft at the outset. Here, you can declare your ambitions as the new driver on the scene and prepare to take on the world's best. Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso are all waiting to go wheel-to-wheel with some new talent.

Circuits have been recreated with precision and authenticity, from the floodlit Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore, which was home to the first night time event in FORMULA ONE history, to the suburban Hungaroring track in Budapest.

As you cross the finish line, celebratory music starts, the crowd roars and you will undoubtedly feel an enormous sense of achievement. If that wasn't enough to motivate you to win - check out the stats section to see your rank, fastest laps and Grand Prix achievements.

Be the driver

The thrill, excitement and luxury lifestyle of FORMULA ONE racing roars back onto PlayStation 3 in F1 2011. The slickest cars, picturesque tracks and thrilling races have returned, along with new circuits, more drivers and an enhanced focus on the exciting multiplayer mode.

Head to the paddock and start living the life in the Career Mode. In the driver's room you'll be able to check your emails for contract offers, read messages from your agent and review weather forecasts, so you know what to expect on the track. Keep up with the latest news and read up on the circuits you'll be visiting.

Once you're prepped, check the Race Calendar and head to the track. Travel to countries all over the world to show off your driving skills including Turkey, Japan and Canada, and even test your tyres on two brand new circuits - Buddh International Circuit in India and Nurburgring, Germany.

When you're ready for the Grand Prix, choose your team - you'll be spoilt for choice with big names such as Team Lotus, Red Bull Racing and Force India on the list - and design your own tournament. The race distance, weather and the tracks are totally up to you, so create a real challenge and take on world-class opponents such as Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.

Before each race, make sure you consult with the engineers and assess your car set-up. The right tyres make all the difference, so pick the best ones for the track and weather before you put the pedal to the metal.

Go compete

The tag line of F1 2011 has been extended this year - players are now encouraged to "go compete" - and with a wide range of competitive and co-operative multiplayer modes, there's no better excuse to put your foot down on the track.

Offline, you can get your mates round for some two player split screen sessions - it's always great to see your opponent's face when you speed over the finish line first.

Online, you can play a variety of multiplayer modes via PlayStation Network, which you'll need a VIP Pass to access. You'll find your VIP Pass in your F1 2011 box, or you can purchase it from PlayStation Store. Once you're online, take on up to 15 other players and burn around the picturesque tracks with people who love racing as much as you do. Players are ranked on their ability and given different objectives to ensure the online leader boards aren't filled with experts and everyone can enjoy a fair race.

If you're playing with a friend, why not team up and work together to win championships for teams like Mercedes GP, Lotus-Renault and McLaren?
