How to manage PS4 storage space

Learn how to manage your PS4 storage space and game save data using PS Plus online storage, PS4 system storage and USB storage.

 
 

To manage your PS4 Save Data, go to [Settings] > [Application Saved Data Management].

If you would like to access an application's PS Plus online storage save data from the content launcher or [Library], highlight the application, press the Options button and select [Upload/Download]. From this menu you can upload or download your save data.

 
 

How do I make space on my PS4 to install a new game?

There are multiple ways to free up memory when installing a new game. If you would like to install the game to the PS4 system storage, you may need to delete some applications. Don't worry, you won't lose access to any deleted games — you can redownload the application from your [Library] whenever you like.  

  1. Highlight the application you want to delete in the content launcher or [Library].
  2. Press the Options button on the DS4 controller > [Delete}.
  3. Confirm. The application is now deleted.

If you don't want to delete the existing games in PS4 system storage, you can download the new game using an external HDD, or upgrade the existing PS4 HDD. Please select the appropriate guide below for further instructions.

 
 

How do I delete saved game data from my PS4?

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Application Saved Data Management].
  2. Choose either System Storage, Online Storage or USB Storage > [Delete]
  3. Select a game and place ticks next to the files you wish to delete or [Select All].
  4. Select [Delete] and then select [OK] to confirm your decision.
 
 

How do I upload a game save to PS Plus online storage?

You can manually upload saved game data from a PS4 system to your PS Plus Online Storage. To use this feature, you must be subscribed to PlayStation Plus.

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data in System Storage] and select [Upload to Online Storage].
  2. Select a game or application.
  3. Place a tick next to each save file that you wish to upload, or choose [Select All], and select [Upload].

"Do you want to overwrite this saved data" will display if the file has previously been uploaded to Online Storage. The date and time shown for each version will help you determine which is the most recent save. Select [Yes] to replace the version in Online Storage or [No] to cancel the upload.

  • Download from online storage

    1. Go to [Settings] > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data in Online Storage] and select [Download to System Storage].
    2. Select a game or application.
    3. Place a tick next to each save file that you wish to download, or choose [Select All], and select [Download].

    "Do you want to overwrite this saved data" will display if the file already exists in system storage. The date and time shown for each version will help you determine which is the most recent save. Select [Yes] to replace the version in system storage or [No] to cancel the download.

  • You can also set your PS4 system to Auto-Upload PS4 Saved Game Data to your Online Storage.
  • The maximum storage capacity that can be used with online storage is 10 GB.
  • You can check the progress of uploads under [Notifications] > [Uploads].

How do I copy my PS4 game save to a USB storage device

You can copy saved game data to a USB storage device that is connected to the PS4 system. Save data that you copy can be used as a backup, and you can copy save data from the USB storage device to another PS4 and continue playing your games. Please note, you must be signed in to PlayStation Network to use this feature. 

  1. Connect a USB storage device to the PS4 system.
  2. Go to [Settings] > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data in System Storage] > [Copy to USB Storage Device].
  3. Select a game.
  4. Place ticks next to the data you wish to copy, or [Select All], and select [Copy].

"Do you want to overwrite this saved data" will display if the file you're copying already exists on the USB storage device. The date and time shown for each version will help you determine which is the most recent save. Select [Yes] to replace the version in USB storage. Select [No] to cancel the copy.

  • Download from USB storage device

    1. Go to [Settings] > [Application Saved Data Management] > [Saved Data on USB Storage Device] and select [Copy to System Storage].
    2. Select a game or application.
    3. Place a tick next to each save file that you wish to download, or choose [Select All], and select [Download].
