DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller support

Find out how to pair and charge a DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller with your PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®4 console, and how to change controller settings.

How to pair your controller with a PS4 console or PS5 console

  1. Make sure that your console is on.

  2. Connect the controller to your console using the included USB cable.

  • If your controller is turned off, press the PS button. After the light bar blinks, the player indicator lights up.
  • When your controller has enough battery life, you can disconnect the USB cable and use your controller wirelessly.
  • Please note, your controller can pair with only one console at a time. When you want to use your controller on another console, you'll need to pair it with that console.
  • You can use up to 4 controllers at the same time. When you press the PS button, a color is assigned to each player.

How to charge a DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller in rest mode

When using your PS4 console, you can check your controller battery level by pressing and holding the PS button on your controller to show the Quick Menu. The controller battery level is displayed on this screen.

To charge your controller while your console is in rest mode:

  1. Go to Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode
  2. Select Supply Power to USB Ports.
Controllers can be charged while in rest mode. If you select 3 hours, power will be supplied to USB ports only for 3 hours after entering rest mode. After 3 hours, the system will lower its power consumption to save energy.
  • When charging while your console is in rest mode, the light bar on your controller slowly blinks orange. After charging is complete, the light bar turns off.
