What is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach?
Sam – with companions by his side – sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction.
Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: Should we have connected?
Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.
Key features
In the vast open world of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, countless areas with vastly different terrains and environments are seamlessly connected, and the changing time, weather and nature itself provide a variety of landscapes and challenges.
There are various obstacles that will prevent Sam from completing his mission. Face them head-on, sneak around, or completely avoid dangerous areas. Choose your approach to any situation.
Eleven months after the events of the previous game, Death Stranding, which connected a divided America and prevented the extinction of humanity, Sam and his friends begin a new journey of 'connection' in the unknown wilderness.
Your actions affect someone else's world, and their actions affect yours. Make sure you leave your mark on this world.
Where does Death Stranding 2: On the Beach take place?
Join Sam for the next chapter of his journey as he attempts to connect Australia to the Chiral Network. Navigate a living environment through day and night cycles, natural disasters including earthquakes, sandstorms and forest fires, and Timefall – a rain that instantly ages everything it touches.
To traverse this dangerous landscape, you'll need to build new types of infrastructure, master specialised equipment, and confront (or evade) the otherworldly creatures that roam the fractured world.
Combat and stealth
Face enigmatic Mech soldiers, as-yet unseen BTs, and new boss types that will push Sam to his limits. As you prepare for each journey, you’ll be able to fabricate weapons like machine guns, shotguns and grenade launchers to deal with threats. Or, choose to avoid confrontation altogether with stealth – using decoy holograms, silent takedowns and long-ranged gear.
Through APAS enhancements, Sam can learn new skills that will improve his odds of survival, like enhanced weapon fire-rates or reduced movement noise to help him stay hidden.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on 26 June 2025.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is an open-world action-adventure game, played from a third-person perspective, where the player must deliver cargo, overcome enemies both human and otherworldly, explore a post-apocalyptic world by foot and vehicle, and piece together a complex and compelling sci-fi story.
There is no requirement to have played Death Stranding prior to starting Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. However, familiarity with the first game – in its original guise or Director’s Cut release – will help players relate to the gameplay, story and characters of the sequel.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut for PlayStation 5 and Death Stranding for PlayStation 4 are available in Game Catalog as part of the PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium membership plans. Alternatively, the game is available to purchase digitally and on disc.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach supports asynchronous multiplayer in the same way as the original game. Actions of other players, such as the creation of roads or structures and the routes they have travelled, will become visible and useable to the player once they have successfully connected areas of the map.
PlayStation Plus is not required to access the asynchronous multiplayer elements of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is developed by Kojima Productions, based in Tokyo. The game is produced, designed and directed by studio founder Hideo Kojima, with character and mecha designs by Yoji Shinkawa, action direction by Yuji Shimomura and music composed by Ludvig Forssell.
