Play with friends online, even if they don’t own the game

The PlayStation 4 system’s advanced Share Play feature lets you enjoy your favorite games together with your PSN friends, wherever they live, whether they own a copy of the game or not. With Share Play, you can let a friend watch you play your favorite game by sharing your screen, let them take over control of the action and try the game for themselves, or even jump into a local multiplayer coop or versus game.

Virtual Couch Co-op

Settle your rivalries with Share Play by going head-to-head in local multiplayer games like EA SPORTS™ FIFA 18 or Street Fighter® V , or enjoy a cooperative 2-player game like LittleBigPlanet 3 or Knack 2. Connect and let your PSN Friend join your game as the second player.

Requirements and Limitations

Depending on the Share Play session type, PlayStation Plus may be required for one or both parties, as follows:

  • Screen Share – PlayStation Plus is not required for either party
  • Pass the Controller – PlayStation Plus is required for the host, but not for the guest
  • Playing Together – PlayStation Plus is required for both players

Share Play sessions last for a maximum of 60 minutes. Once the time limit is reached, the session will end. The host can restart the Share Play session so the visitor can continue to play. Not all PS4 titles support Share Play. Some developers may choose to disable this feature. Visitors do not earn trophies while playing a game through Share Play.

To get the best experience from Share Play, both the host and the visitor must each have a high-speed Internet connection. Generally, a minimum upstream and downstream connection speed of 2 Mbps is recommended, and 5 Mbps will give the best performance. You can view an estimate of your connection speed in (Settings) > [Network] > [Test Internet Connection]. You should also limit the use of other network-connected devices such as smartphones and streaming video devices.
