    Super agent

The classic shooter has been reborn on PS3 for a whole new generation of gamers to experience.

This latest iteration in the hugely popular Wolfenstein series brings the Nazi's dark obsession with the occult to life through epic action and blistering first-person shooter combat. Using a powerful arsenal of both occult-enhanced Axis and Allied weapons to fight off a supernatural Nazi force that is full of surprises, players are in for a sizeable challenge.

Taking on the role of series stalwart BJ Blazkowicz, a highly decorated member of the Office of Secret Actions (OSA), you are sent on a special mission into the bowels of the Reich to investigate evidence that the Nazis may possess a new and mysterious power. While behind enemy lines, you discover the Nazis have done much more than develop a new toy, they harnessed the mighty power of the Black Sun through a dark parallel dimension called The Veil, in order to create a weapon of war-ending mass destruction. Right now, you are the only one that can stop them and save the world from their twisted plans of otherworldly domination.

    Forces of evil

As you progress through the storyline and myriad missions in the game, you will encounter a slew of various enemies' hell bent on stopping you from completing your mission. These include various forms of Nazi infantry wielding pistols, sniper rifles and heavy duty machine guns, as well as the more nefarious and much more dangerous enemies who possess dark powers.

The more formidable foes such as the Heavy Troopers require you to use the Veil to highlight the weak areas of their steel suits and shoot them before they blast you with their Particle Cannons. Other more sophisticated enemies such as the Assassin have the ability to turn invisible and attack you with deadly blades, which again requires you to think smart and use your powers to reveal these silent stalkers.

Supernaturally powered foes known as Scholars have the ability to cloak enemy soldiers in Veil shields, which require you to use your own Veil powers to blast through them and render each one powerless before taking them down. To survive the onslaught of enemies Wolfenstein throws at you, you will need to think smart in battle, utilising each and every one of your powers to your advantage.

    Mission impossible

Wolfenstein is an open-world game of sorts where players can choose to take on available missions in order they please.

With a huge map to explore - every corner of which is littered with hidden secrets such as intelligence documents, valuables and bags of gold, which can be used in Black Market stores to buy and upgrade new weapons. These missions involve everything from stealing important codebooks, assassinating high ranking officers, freeing hostages and exploring areas of interest such as desolate churches and supposedly empty farmhouses.

Naturally, when BJ arrives on the scene he quickly discovers what the Nazi's have been up to and all out action ensues, requiring a quick trigger finger and utilising a variety of excellent weapons including machine guns, pistols and sniper rifles. Of course, it wouldn't be a Wolfenstein game without the suitably zany sci-fi weaponry brandished by the Nazi forces that you eventually get to wield, including a Particle Cannon and other super guns.

Another staple of the Wolfenstein series is the supernatural. Using a mystical amulet, players possess superpowers called Veil technology. Veil Sight allows players to see in the dark and highlight enemy weak spots, while at the same time allowing you to travel through walls into secret passageways and rooms.

The remaining abilities generate shields, slow down time and allow your weapons to penetrate force fields and shielded enemies in sprawling firefights. When you use each power it drains the energy from your amulet and there are plenty of recharge points located around each area, so you never have to worry about running out during battle.

    Bring the fight online

Battle in Team Deathmatch, Objective and Stopwatch multiplayer modes.

With a lengthy single player campaign that should keep you busy for at least eight hours, there is still plenty more action to be had online in each of the three multiplayer modes made available. These include Team Deathmatch, Objective and Stopwatch. In Objective, players on one team must carry out a specific task while the other team has to do everything in its power to stop them before they achieve their goal. Stopwatch sees both teams take part in objectives, all the while trying to best each other's time scores to win the round. Team Deathmatch sees two teams engage in a mass battle, with the highest scoring team at the end of the round rising victoriously from the brawling ground.
