    Bright lights, big cities

blur features a huge range of licensed cars to battle and race with including Dodge Vipers, Lotus Exiges, Ford trucks kitted out with F1 engines, a Toyota Supra, Ford Mustangs and even a 1970s Volkswagen Beetle. The game also throws plenty of variety in terms of its tracks your way, which means there is loads of potential for bettering your driving skills and scores with each attempt.

On your travels you'll compete in major cities around the world including New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, San Francisco and even Brighton and London. It's worth taking note of each of the tracks and researching each one before you compete because certain cars are better equipped for dealing with courses involving winding streets, sharp corners or long straights.

    Car wars

Welcome to the world of blur, the ultimate racing experience that drops you into heart pumping, electrified action with 20 cars vying for the finish line and battling each other as they trade paint. Intense power-ups are what you'll use to gain the upper hand and win the race in blur.

These include Shock, which fires three Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) fields in front of the lead racer, crippling their car. Mines can be thrown either in front or behind you to slow opponents down, while Barge blasts nearby racers away from you. Other slick weaponry includes Bolt, which allows you to hurl three energy rounds at opponents to nudge them off course and Shunt, a homing missile that can flip cars into the air. There are also Nitrous power-ups, Shields and Repair, ideal for fixing your car up in an instant.

There are numerous modes too including Destruction, Checkpoint, Race and One-On-One. You can only compete in One-On-One once you have completed a series of challenges set out for you. These challenges include finishing in the top three places and reaching Fan Targets, which are achieved by winning races and acing challenges that involve passing through flashing icons on the racetrack or using three power-ups in a row.

blur features four categories of cars to get to grips with, and at the outset of the game you're given four cars to race with. The reason for this is because some challenges require the use of all four vehicles to achieve the goals set out for you. The order in which you complete them is entirely up to you.

    Connect and race

blur packs in a wealth of multiplayer modes, pitting you against 19 other racers on the track. There is a challenging selection of modes including Motor Mash, where you compete in a destruction derby style event trying to cause as much damage as possible to your opponent in an enclosed space such as a dust bowl or car park.

Other modes such as Hardcore, World Tour and Power-up throw you into races that involve everything from random track and power-up generators to competing without any power-ups at all. Another interesting aspect of the game is its social networking connectivity with Facebook.

The game houses a Share Button that, when used, sends various challenges to your friends on Facebook. You can also share game photos, racing statistics and item unlocks, which means you get to show off your skills to all your friends.
