Fans of the Mega Man series, until recently, had yet to experience the delights of the Blue Bomber in anything other than side-scrolling 2D. But now, thanks to some technical wizardry at Capcom, you can run, jump and shoot stuff as the man himself, all in glorious 3D. And in this, the seventh outing for Mega Man, you have a choice of characters. You can choose to take on the guise of the eponymous hero 'X', play as his rival Zero or step nimbly into the shoes of newcomer Axl.
In Mega Man's latest adventure, the Red Alert Syndicate (a reploid crime organisation) has been steadily amassing power and terrorising the populace, and it's up to X and co. to put a stop to their fiendish schemes. There's just one glitch though; the Blue Bomber is out of the crime fighting circuit and in hiding somewhere, leaving Zero to clean up the mean streets without him. Never fear though, it wouldn't be a Mega Man game if the guy himself didn't figure, and it isn't long before he's coaxed out of retirement and back into action.
Once the (somewhat flimsy) plot is out of the way, it's business as usual, with X heading up the team with his trusty arm cannon, which you can charge up for a more powerful shot. Zero weilds his standard laser sword and, in addition to an arm cannon, Axl has the ability to transform into various enemies by acquiring their robotic DNA. So, the basic premise is to get tooled up, take out the bad guys and complete various missions. And when you're not fighting robots with souped-up weaponry, you'll be tasked with saving reploids wandering about the shop. Rescue enough and you'll be rewarded for your efforts.
