PlayStation buying guide

Find out how to safely purchase PlayStation products.

Knowing what to look out for before you buy will help you save time and money. Here are some guides to help you with the process.

Please note, this is not a comprehensive buying guide, but it highlights some key points to consider.

Buying a new PlayStation product?

  • Buy only from authorized retailers
You can buy PlayStation consoles from authorized retailers to ensure functionality, product authenticity, return policy and warranty coverage. Unauthorized retailers and websites may fraudulently supply products via theft/fraud and may expose you to risk.

*Models, availability, offers may vary.

  • Wait for sales to get a deal
Wait for major sales events like Black Friday, holiday promotions, or PlayStation seasonal discounts to get the best deals on PlayStation products.

Buying a used PlayStation product?

  • The product may not be under warranty
Third-party used PlayStation products are not covered by warranty*.
  • Check seller reviews and reputation
Go through a seller's rating and feedback score. You can also use independent sites for more feedback.
  • Ask for video proof
Before agreeing to take a look in person, ask the seller for a video that shows them testing all ports, buttons, and disc drives (if applicable). Ask them to show the product powering on and connecting to the internet (if relevant).
  • Inspect the product carefully
Hold the product before you buy it. Recheck what was tested in the video and check for things that the video couldn’t show, such as image quality, overheating, or signs of damage. Check to see if any warranty seals have been broken, or serial numbers removed from the product.
  • Confirm the item is not reported lost or stolen
If a PlayStation product is reported lost or stolen, the product may be permanently suspended from accessing PlayStation services. If it’s a connected product, check that it connects to the internet and can use PlayStation services.
  • If you’re buying a console, make sure that the seller has deactivated it and no longer has access to it.
  • Trust your intuition
Walk away if something feels wrong.
  • Watch out for scams
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
