How to set Access controller profiles

Find out how to set up and use Access™ controller profiles to suit your playstyle.

How to create a profile for your Access controller

Create and save up to 30 custom profiles for your Access controller.

  1. From the home screen, go to Settings > Accessories. 
  2. Select Access controller > Profile Library. 
  3. Select Create Profile. 
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the Controller Orientation and Button Assignments.
  5. Select one of the three slots, and then select Assign.
    If you select Assign without selecting a slot, your settings are saved on your PlayStation®5 console without being assigned to a slot in your controller.

  1. From the Profile Library, select a profile to edit.
  2. Select Edit. 
  3. Select the item you want to edit, and then configure its settings: 

You can also select Assign to Slot or Delete in step 2.

How to use Access controller profile shortcuts

You can assign up to three of your favourite profiles to the slots on your controller so you can freely switch between them during gameplay. You can also assign a single profile to multiple slots. 
  1. From the home screen, go to Settings > Accessories. 
  2. Select Access controller > Profile Library.
  3. Select a profile you want to assign to a slot. 
  4. Select Assign to Slot.
  5. Select Slot 1, Slot 2, or Slot 3.
    If you have two Access controllers paired, assign the profile to one or both of the controllers, and then select Slot 1, Slot 2, or Slot 3.
  6. Select Assign.

Press the profile button on the stick base of your Access controller. Repeat to cycle between the three assigned profiles.  

  • The profile button is located towards you when the analogue stick is on the left side and the centre button is on the right.
  • The profile indicator lights up for Slot 1, Slot 2, and Slot 3 to help you identify which profile you’ve selected. 

The profile button can also be used as follows:

Press and hold
Shows the current button assignments of your profile on-screen.

Press and hold until the profile indicator turns off
Switches to the base profile. Use the base profile when, for example, the button assignments of your custom profile don’t function properly.

How to edit your controller orientation 

Set the orientation of your Access controller to left, right, up, or down.

  1. From the Profile Library, select a profile.
  2. Select Edit > Controller Orientation.
    An orientation selection screen appears. 
  3. Select the direction you want the stick base to point. 
  • Keep in mind that when you select a new orientation or switch to a different profile, you need to physically position your controller to match it.

How to customize your Access controller button assignments

Set different functions for the buttons of your Access controller based on your preferences.
  1. From the Profile Library, select a profile.
  2. Select Edit > Button Assignments. 
  3. Select the button you want to edit, and then select Assign Button.
  4. Select the function you want to assign to the button.
    You can also choose Not Assigned to set the button to null (no function).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to customize the button press.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 until you edit all of the buttons you want. 
  7. When you’re done editing button assignments, select Done. 
  8. Save your edits by assigning the profile to a slot on your controller.

  • The cross button, circle button, options button, and left stick (or directional buttons) are required to operate your PS5 console. If you save a profile without assigning these buttons and the stick, you need to use one more controller or the base profile to be able to use these functions. 
  • You can set the centre button to Not Assigned if you’d like to rest your hand or wrist on it.  
  • After you finish assigning buttons, you can put tags on the button caps so you can remember what each one does. 

How to customize button presses for your Access controller

  1. Create or edit a button assignment. 
  2. After you assign a button, select Assign Simultaneous Press or Button Toggle.
  • Assign Simultaneous Press to assign a second button to press simultaneously.
  • Turn on Button Toggle to have your button act like a caps lock key on a keyboard. By pressing the button once, it remains pressed down so you don’t have to do it physically. 
  • The toggle button settings appear on the screen when you press the toggle button. 

How to customize stick input for your Access controller

You can customize the sensitivity and deadzone of the analogue stick. Stick sensitivity determines how fast or slow your movements are when you move the stick. The deadzone is the range that you can move the stick before it’s recognized as an input. 

  • Adjust the stick sensitivity to speed up or slow down your character’s movement or view. 
  • Set the deadzone to have finer control over your character’s movement or view. 
  1. From the Profile Library, select a profile. 
  2. Select Edit > Stick sensitivity/deadzone. 
  3. From the menu that appears, select what you would like to adjust. 

A) Sensitivity Setting
Adjust the sensitivity of your stick movement by moving this slider. Move the slider to the left to decrease sensitivity, and move it to the right to increase sensitivity. 

B) Deadzone 
Adjust the range of the stick movement where input isn’t recognized by moving this slider to the left or right. Move this slider to the left to decrease deadzone, so your game responds to smaller movements of your stick. Move the slider to the right to increase the deadzone, so your game responds only when you make bigger movements. 

C) Playtest 
Check what your current setting is like during gameplay by tilting the stick to the left or right.

D) Adjusted input
The movement on this scale shows your current sensitivity setting. Decrease the stick sensitivity for slower movement on the scale, and increase for faster movement. If your stick input is within the deadzone, the scale doesn’t move. 

E) Controller input 
Unrelated to stick sensitivity, this slider shows you how far you’re tilting the stick. Your deadzone setting appears in black on the slider.
