PS4: Disc ejecting itself

PS4: Disc ejecting itself

If your PS4 randomly ejects discs, try these troubleshooting steps.

Turn your PS4 off and on again

  1. Hold the PS button on your controller to open the quick menu and select Power  > Turn off PS4.
  2. Unplug the PS4 and hold down the power button for 30 seconds until you hear two beeps.
  3. After five minutes plug the console back in and switch it back on.

Update PS4 system software

To check the system software, go to  Settings  > System Software Update.

Tighten the manual eject screw

A loose manual eject screw could be causing the issue. Visit the guide below to find the location of your PS4 console's manual eject screw.

Check the disc for scratches and dirt

  • Clean a scratched or dirty disc using a lint-free cleaning cloth made specifically for cleaning Blu-ray Discs or DVDs. These cloths are sold at computer software stores.
  • Clean the disc by wiping from the innermost circle out towards the edge in a straight line.
  • Using other materials such as a paper towel or T-shirt may scratch the disc and cause it not to function properly.

Does the issue affect multiple discs?

  • Try playing different Blu-ray discs, DVDs and games on the PS4 console to find out if the problem occurs with other discs.
  • If the problem only occurs with one disc, the disc could be damaged.
  • If the problem occurs with all discs, there may be a fault with your PS4 console.
