How to set up PS VR2

Find out how to set up your PlayStation®VR2 and update your PlayStation VR2 settings.

How to connect your PS VR2

  1. Use the USB Type-C cable (A) provided with your PS VR2 system to connect the headset to the USB-C port (B) on the front of your PlayStation®5 console.
  1. Press the power button on your PS5™ console.

  2. Press the power button (C) on your PS VR2 headset.

  1. Make sure you have the necessary accessories for setup.

  1. Using the DualSense™ wireless controller included with your PS5 console, follow the on-screen instructions.

Make sure that your PlayStation 5 console’s system software is up to date.

  1. Check earphones.
    Connect the stereo headphones to your VR headset. You can also connect other supported headphones. 
  2. Pair your controllers.
    Connect the right PlayStation VR2 Sense™ controller to your PS5 console using the USB cable provided and turn on your console. Repeat with the left PS VR2 Sense controller.
  1. Unplug the controllers and press the function button.
    Once your controllers are paired and charged, remove the USB cable and press the function button on the VR headset.
  2. Clear some space.
    Clear some space around you so that there’s nothing you’ll bump into or trip over in your play area.
  3. Adjust the brightness of your room.
    Turn on the lights in your room so that your VR headset can track your surroundings. Keep curtains closed to avoid direct sunlight. Press the function button to check the light levels.
  4. Put on the VR headset.
    Follow on-screen instructions to pull out the scope, release the headband and put on your VR headset. You can then tighten the headset and adjust the scope.
  1. Adjust the lenses.
    To make sure you can see the screen clearly, adjust the lens distance so that your eyes are positioned in the middle of the lenses. Press the function button when you are done.
  1. Hold the controllers.
    Pick up your controllers and wear the straps securely on your wrists. Follow the on-screen instructions to learn about the controller features.
  2. Calibrate eye tracking.
    Follow the dot on the screen to calibrate eye tracking. Try not to move your head during the calibration.
  3. Set the play area.
    Set an area you can safely play games in. Scan your room using the VR headset camera. You can also adjust the floor height.
  4. Set power-saving settings for your headset.

How to set a PS VR2 play area 

  1. Turn on your PS VR2, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.
    You can also access this menu from the control center.
  2. Select Play Area and choose from the following settings.
  • Set Play Area
    This option resets the play area when you need to edit or set a temporary play area.
  • Set Floor Height
  • Boundary Display Sensitivity
    Set the sensitivity for how soon the boundaries of your play area are displayed when you approach them. To display the boundaries earlier, set the sensitivity to "High". If you set the sensitivity to "Low", you don’t see the boundaries until you’re close to the edge of your play area.
  • Clear Play Area Data
    If your game doesn't proceed as expected after resetting the play area, try clearing the play area data. Then, reset your play area by selecting Set Play Area.

How to enable and adjust eye tracking

Intelligent eye tracking uses the movement of your eyes to improve your PS VR2 experience.

  1. Turn on your PS VR2, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.
  2. Select Eye Tracking > Enable Eye Tracking.
    Your VR game reflects your line of sight, when you blink, and more.

If you turn on Enable Eye Tracking and it doesn't seem to be working correctly, you can make adjustments by selecting Adjust Eye Tracking.

How to adjust your VR headset settings

  1. Turn on your PS VR2, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.
  2. Select VR headset and then choose from the following options.
  • Check How to Put On VR Headset
  • Adjust Lens Distance and VR Headset Position
    To make sure you can see the VR screen clearly, adjust the lens distance so that your eyes are positioned in the middle of the lenses.
  • Screen Brightness
  • VR Headset Vibration
  • Function Button Assignment
  • Tracking Camera Calibration
    Calibrate your camera so it can accurately track your surroundings.

Access the key settings for PS VR2 quickly using the control center.

  1. While using PS VR2, press the PS button to access the control center.

  2. Select the PlayStation VR2 Quick Settings card to quickly adjust the following settings:

  • View surroundings 
  • Screen brightness
  • System Screen Size
  • VR Headset Vibration
  • Set Play Area
  • Adjust visibility
  • Eye Tracking
  • Other Settings

How to activate PS VR2 view surroundings mode

See-though view lets you see your real-world surroundings while you have your VR2 headset on.

By default, the function button activates the see-through view.

  • You can also select see-through view from the PS VR2 quick settings card in the control center.

How to adjust your function button assignment

Pressing the function button switches your VR headset to see-through view, where you can see your surroundings while wearing your VR headset. 

You can also change the function button assignment from Settings.

  1. Turn on your PS VR2, go to the home screen, and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.
  2. Select VR headset > Function Button Assignment.
    You can assign the function button to View Surroundings or to Mute Microphone.

How to set when your headset turns off

Set how long you can leave your PS VR2 headset without wearing it before it automatically turns off. This feature is disabled while playing a VR game.

  1. From the home screen, select Settings > System > Power Saving.
  2. Select Set Time Until Your PlayStation VR2 Turns Off.

This setting appears only when your PS VR2 is connected and turned on.
