How to identify PS VR processor unit lights

Find out what the indicator lights on the front of the PlayStation®VR (PS VR) processor unit (PU) mean. 

The meaning of the PS VR light varies depending on the situation. Select the appearance of your PU's indicator light from the following list to find out what it means.

Red: two flashes then solid

The PU enters rest mode after you plug it into the mains and your console is off. The flashes indicate that the PU is entering rest mode. The solid red light indicates the PU isn't currently sending any information to your TV through the HDMI cable. Turn on the PU with the power button on the VR headset inline remote.

Red: solid

The PU is in rest mode and isn't sending any information to your TV through the HDMI cable. Turn on the PU using the power button on the VR headset inline remote or by turning on your console.

Red: five fast flashes

The PU is experiencing a power surge. Turn off the PU and headset by pressing the inline power button for 7 seconds. 

Red: flashing

The PU is overheating. You'll also see an onscreen message and the fan might be louder than usual. Turn off the PU and your console for 30 minutes to let them cool down.

To help avoid overheating, make sure the PU isn't on top of your console and is placed in a well-ventilated area with the fan clear.

White: flashing

The power button on the VR headset inline remote has been pressed and the VR headset is turning on.

White: solid

A solid white light means the PS VR is ready to begin play. A solid white light indicates the PU and console are connected, they are both powered up and they are sending a signal to your TV. You'll see a notification with the VR icon on your console to confirm PS VR has been detected.

If your console is set up to download files while in rest mode, the PU will exit rest mode (solid red light) and turn on (solid white light) while the Internet connection is active. The PU will re-enter rest mode after the download is complete.

No light at all

Make sure the power cable is fully inserted into the correct port on the PU.

Check all connections to make sure none are loose. Follow the PS VR set-up instructions for details on how to connect your PS VR correctly. Try another mains electrical outlet and, if you're using an outlet extension cable, plug the PU directly into the wall instead.
