If your PS5 or PS4 console’s internal storage doesn’t have enough space to store a game, you can use a compatible USB drive. Drives that support SuperSpeed USB2 with between 250 GB and 8 TB capacity can be used, giving you more space to save your games.
You can transfer compatible games and add-ons, including those downloaded from PlayStation Store, from your PS5 or PS4 consoles’ internal storage to an externally connected USB drive.
You can also play compatible PS4 games directly off an external USB drive connected to your PS5 or PS4 console. To play externally saved PS5 games, simply transfer them from your USB drive back to the PS5 console’s internal Ultra-High Speed SSD.
1 External USB drives sold separately. Seagate 2TB External Game Drive is developed under the official licensing program for PlayStation, and will work with PlayStation 5 subject to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s final product approval.
2 The following Superspeed USB connections are supported on PS5 and PS4 consoles: SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps (USB 3.0/USB 3.1 Gen1/USB 3.2 Gen1), SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen2/USB 3.2 Gen2/USB 3.2 Gen1x2), SuperSpeed USB 20 Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 2x2).
