PS5: Eject a stuck disc

If a disc gets stuck in your PS5™ console, you can manually eject it by following these steps.

Before you begin, you need

  • A well-lit room with a table to work on. 

  • A #1 Phillips or Cross Hatch screwdriver. 

  • A small flashlight (optional). 

Note: Don’t turn on or play on your console with the cover off.

How to manually eject a stuck disc from a PS5™console

  1. Turn off the PS5 console and disconnect the AC power cord. 

  2. Place your console on a soft cloth and flat surface.  

  3. Disconnect all cables from the console. 

  4. Remove the base from the console. 

  5. Place the console on its side with the disc slot facing you. The top cover that has a PS logo on it should be facedown on the table.

  6. Place your palms on top of the cover, near the back right corner of the console, and grip the edge of the cover with your fingers. Gently pull up the corner of the cover away from the console until the cover lifts slightly (about 2cm or 3/4 inch). You’ll hear a click, and the cover will lift a bit more (about another 2cm or 3/4 inch). 

  7. Carefully lift the cover off, starting from the right side. 

  8. Once the cover is removed, look for four circular pieces on the optical drive. Beside these is a small, circular dust cover of black plastic. 

  9. Carefully peel the dust cover away to reveal the screw beneath. Set aside the dust cover for now. 

  10. Using your screwdriver, turn the screw clockwise. After several turns of the screw, your disc begins to peek out. Keep turning the screw until the full disc is almost completely visible. Do not forcibly pull the disc from the optical drive.

  11. Gently remove the disc from the disc slot by hand. 

  12. Replace the dust cover over the screw. 

  13. Replace the bottom cover by positioning it over the exposed side of the console, slightly away (about 2cm or 3/4 inch) from the edge. 

  14. Slide the cover back into place until it clicks into position. 

  15. Reconnect all cables and the AC power cord. Turn on the console to check that everything is working properly.
