How to manage PS4 console storage space

Learn how to manage your PlayStation®4 console storage space and game saved data using PlayStation®Plus online storage, PS4 console system storage and USB storage.

To manage your PlayStation®4 console storage, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management.

If you would like to access an application's PlayStation®Plus online storage save data from the content launcher or Library, highlight the application, press the OPTIONS button, and select Upload/Download.

How to make space on your PS4 console to install a new game

There are multiple ways to free up storage when installing a new game. If you would like to install the game to the PS4™ console storage, you may need to delete some applications. Don't worry, you won't lose access to any deleted games — you can redownload the application from your Library whenever you like.

  1. Highlight the application you want to delete in the content launcher or Library.
  2. Press the OPTIONS button > Delete.

If you don't want to delete the existing games in PS4 console storage, you can download the new game to USB extended storage, or upgrade your PS4 console HDD. Please select the appropriate guide below for further instructions.

How to delete saved data from your PS4 console

  1. Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management.
  2. Choose either System Storage, Online Storage or USB Storage > Delete.
  3. Select a game and then select the files you wish to delete or Select All.
  4. Select Delete and then select OK to confirm your decision.

How to copy your PS4 console saved data to a USB storage device 

You can copy saved data to a USB drive that is connected to your PS4 console. You can also copy saved data from the USB storage device to another PS4 console and continue playing your games. Please note, you must be signed in to use this feature. 

  1. Connect a USB storage device to the PS4 console.
  2. Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device.
  3. Select a game.
  4. Place ticks next to the data you wish to copy, or Select All, and select Copy.

"Do you want to overwrite this saved data" will display if the file you're copying already exists on the USB storage device.

The date and time shown for each version will help you determine which is the most recent save. Select Yes to replace the version in USB storage. Select No to cancel the copy.

  1. Go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data on USB Storage Device and select Copy to System Storage.
  2. Select a game or application.
  3. Place a tick next to each save file that you wish to download, or choose Select All, and select Download.

"Do you want to overwrite this saved data" will display if the file already exists in system storage.
