How to upgrade a game to the PS VR2 version on PS5 consoles

Upgrade an eligible game to the digital PlayStation®VR2 version on PlayStation®5 consoles.

When using a PS5™ console, you may have the option to upgrade a disc or digital game to the digital PS VR2 version. Depending on the game, this upgrade may occur at no additional cost, may require a purchase, and may be available for a limited time. An Internet connection is required.

Please note, some games are upgraded via an update.

How to upgrade an eligible digital game to the digital PS VR2 version

To upgrade an eligible digital game you already own to the PS VR2 version, you need a PS5 console:

  1. Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console.
  2. Find the game in PlayStation™Store, or by Search, and go to the game hub for the PS VR2 game.
  3. Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
  4. Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
  5. After the download is complete, you can play the PS VR2 game.

Games redeemed as a PlayStation®Plus benefit are not eligible for a PS VR2 upgrade unless otherwise indicated.

How to upgrade an eligible game on disc to the digital PS VR2 version

To upgrade an eligible game on disc to the digital PS VR2 version, you need a PS5 console with a disc drive. Game discs can't be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

  1. Sign in to your existing account on your PS5 console (or create an account).
  2. Insert the eligible game disc.
  3. Go to the game hub for the game.
  4. Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
  5. Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
  6. After the download is complete, you can play the PS VR2 digital game by inserting the game disc. 
    You need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.

To upgrade a game disc to the digital PS VR2 version, your game disc needs to be from the same country/region as your account for PlayStation Network. If you have problems upgrading, please check the country/region your account was set up for via the residential address in Account Management.
