How to automatically update system software on PS5 consoles

Automatically update your system software while your console is in rest mode so that the next time you use your console, the system software is updated to the latest version.

  1. Select Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
  2. Turn on Download Update Files Automatically and Install Update Files Automatically.

How to auto-download game/app updates on PS5 consoles

Automatically update your games and apps while your console is in rest mode so that the next time you use them, they're updated to their latest version.
  1. Set your console to connect to the internet while in rest mode.
  2. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates.
  3. Turn on Auto-Download or Auto-Install in Rest Mode.
  • When you don't want to close your suspended game, only turn on Auto-Download. Only the download is automatic in rest mode. When you resume your game, you can choose whether or not to install the update.
  • When you start a game or app, it automatically updates to the newest version available.
  1. Go to Settings > System > Automatic Downloads.
  2. Tick the box next to Application Update Files.

How to auto-download a pre-order

If you pre-order on PlayStation™Store and set up automatic downloads, your content will start downloading as soon as it’s available.

How to stay connected to the internet while in rest mode

If you want automatic downloads or updates to happen while in rest mode, set your PS5 console to Stay Connected to the Internet.

Enter Rest Mode
  1. Go to Settings > System.
  2. Select Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode.
  3. Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.

Selecting Enable Turning On PS5 from Network from this menu allows you to use the PlayStation App or Remote Play to turn on your PS5 console while it's in rest mode.
  1. Go to Settings > Power Saving Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode.
  2. Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS4 from Network.
  • Selecting Enable Turning On PS4 from Network from this menu allows you to use the PlayStation App or Remote Play to turn on your PS4® console while it's in rest mode.
