PS Remote Play on Android TV

With Remote Play, you can control your PlayStation® console remotely wherever you have a high-speed internet connection.

Remote Play on Android TV requirements

You’ll need the following to use Remote Play:

  • TV or device running Android TV™ OS 12 or later
    You can also use Chromecast with Google TV™. For details, visit Google Play™.
  • PS5® console or PS4® console
    Always update your console to the latest version of the system software.
  • An account for PlayStation™Network
    Use the same account that you use for your console. If you don’t have an account, you need to create one first.
  • Mobile device
    Sign in by scanning a QR code on your smartphone or tablet.
  • High-speed internet connection
    As a standard, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 5 Mbps. For best performance, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 15 Mbps.
  • DualSense® wireless controller or DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller.

Install the app on your Android TV

To download and install PS Remote Play on your Android TV, search for the PS Remote Play app on your Android TV.

  • You’ll only need to do these steps the first time you use the app. You can use the same app to connect to your PS5 console and PS4 console.

Set up your PS5 console for Remote Play 

You'll only need to do this the first time you use Remote Play: 

  1. From the home screen, select Settings > System > Remote Play, and then turn on Enable Remote Play. 
    You can adjust this setting for each user.
  2. To start Remote Play while your PS5 console is in rest mode, select Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Then turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.

You’ll only need to do this the first time you use Remote Play: 

  1. From the function screen, go to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings, and then turn on Enable Remote Play. 
  2. From the function screen, go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4, and then select Activate.
    You can enable this setting on only one PS4 console for each account. 
  3. To start Remote Play while your PS4 console is in rest mode, select Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Then turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS4 from Network.

Pair your DualSense wireless controller with your Android TV

When using your controller with your Android TV for the first time, you'll need to pair them.

  1. Make sure the player indicator on your controller is off.
    If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until it turns off.
  2. While pressing and holding the create button, press and hold the PS button until the light bar blinks.
  3. In the Android TV settings, select the controller that you want to pair.
    When pairing is complete, the controller's light bar blinks, and then the player indicator lights up.
  1. Make sure the player indicator on your controller is off.
    If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until it turns off.
  2. While pressing and holding the SHARE button, press and hold the PS button until the light bar blinks.
  3. In the Android TV settings, select the controller that you want to pair.
    When pairing is complete, the controller's light bar lights up.
  • Your controller can be paired with only one device at a time. Each time you change devices, you must pair your controller with the new device.

Start Remote Play on your Android TV

Take the following steps each time you connect to your console from your Android TV.

  1. Turn on your PS5 console or PS4 console or put it into rest mode.
  2. Launch PS Remote Play on your Android TV, and then select Sign In to PSN.
  3. Sign in to the same account that you use for your console.
  4. Using a mobile device, scan the QR code shown on the Android TV, and then sign in.
  5. Select PS5 or PS4.
    The app searches for the PS5 or PS4 console that you’ve signed in to and then connects to the console automatically. After it connects, the screen of your console displays on your Android TV and you can start using Remote Play. 
  • If multiple PS5 or PS4 consoles are found, select the console that you’d like to use.
  • From the second time onwards, you’ll be able to select the console that you connected to previously.
  • Your Android TV won't be able to search and connect to your console if it's been a while since you last signed in. Before using Remote Play, sign in to your console again.
Remote Play Troubleshooting

HDR Remote Play on Android TV

If your Android TV and PS5 console are connected to a display or TV that supports HDR, you can use Remote Play with HDR video quality.

  1. From the home screen of your PS5 console, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, and then set HDR to Always On or On When Supported.
  2. Launch PS Remote Play on your Android TV, and then sign in.
  3. Select Settings at the top right corner of the screen, and then select Video Quality for Remote Play > HDR > Automatic.

Set a high frame rate to enjoy smoother video quality when using Remote Play. 

  1. On your Android TV, launch PS Remote Play, and sign in.
  2. From the top right corner of your screen, select Settings > Video Quality for Remote Play > Frame Rate > High.

How to quit Remote Play on your Android TV

  1. During Remote Play, press the PS button on the controller.
    The control panel displays.
  2. Select Disconnect.
  3. To put your PS5 or PS4 console in rest mode when Remote Play quits, select the checkbox for Put the connected console in rest mode.
  4. Select OK.
    Remote Play quits and the screen returns to its original state before your Android TV was connected to your PS5 or PS4 console.
