How to manage PlayStation®5 storage space

Learn how to make space on your PS5™ console storage, store PlayStation®4 games on PS5 extended storage and move game saved data using PlayStation®Plus cloud storage.

PS5 data and storage locations

To check how much free storage space you have in PS5 console storage, go to Settings > Storage.

Game and saved data, as well as other data, is stored on the built-in storage on your PS5 console. If you don't have room on your console storage, you can either delete data that's already there  or copy data to one of the following storage spaces:

  • Extended storage

You can format a commercially available USB drive as extended storage and use it with your PS5 console.
  • Cloud storage

PlayStation Plus members can use storage in the cloud.
  • USB drive

You can use a commercially available USB drive that's formatted to FAT or exFAT. Not all devices work with your console.

Where you can copy data depends on its type.

How do I make space on my PS5 console for a new game?

There are multiple ways to free up memory when installing a new game.

If you don't want to delete the existing games in console storage, you can move PS4 games from your PS5 console storage to PS5 extended storage.

Don't worry, you won't lose access to any deleted games — you can redownload your purchases from your game library whenever you like.

  1. Go to Settings > Storage > Games and Apps.

  2. Select Items You Can Delete. You can filter by usage date, size and name.

  3. Select Delete to remove the entire game from system storage or, for certain games, you can delete parts of the game or game add-ons.

You can also manage linked PS5 console storage on your device when starting a remote download on the PlayStation App.
