How to connect a DualSense Edge wireless controller with a PS5 console

How to pair a DualSense Edge wireless controller with a PS5 console

The first time you use your controller, you'll need to pair it with your console.

Turn on your PS5® console.
Connect the controller to your console using the included USB cable.
Press the PS button.
The controller powers on. After the light bar blinks, the player indicator lights up.

When your controller has enough battery life, you can disconnect the USB cable and use your controller wirelessly.
When using a PULSE 3D headset, the DualSense Edge controller volume features aren't available.
If you want to use your controller on another console, you'll need to pair it with that console.
You can use up to four controllers at the same time. When you press the PS button, a colour is assigned to each player.
Always update the system software of your PS5 console and the device software of your controller to the latest version.

Pair additional controllers wirelessly

After you pair a controller (controller 1) with your PS5 console, you can pair an additional controller (controller 2) wirelessly. If a USB cable is connected to your controller, disconnect it.

Make sure that controller 2's player indicator is off before you start pairing. If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until the light turns off.
Using controller 1, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories.
Using controller 2, press and hold the create button and the PS button at the same time. The light bar blinks, and controller 2 is listed on the screen.

Pair your DualSense Edge wireless controller with multiple devices and consoles

You can pair your controller with PS5 consoles, mobile devices and computers. This makes it easier to switch between using your controller with your console and other devices. You can have up to four different pairings registered to one controller and each pairing is assigned a slot.

Pair to an assigned slot

By pressing a combination of the PS button and one of the action buttons (triangle button/circle button/cross button/square button), you can assign a console to your desired slot. To do this, you need an already paired controller (controller 1) to pair the additional controller (controller 2).

Make sure that controller 2's player indicator is off before you start pairing. If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until the light turns off.
Using controller 1, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories.
On controller 2, press and hold one of the action buttons. Then press the PS button for at least 5 seconds until the light bar and player indicator blink to set the destination slot. The slot depends on which button you press.

Using controller 1, select controller 2 listed on screen. Controller 2’s light bar lights up, and then the player indicator lights up when properly paired.

Switch slots

When you want to use your controller with another console you've paired to, press and hold one of the action buttons, and then press the PS button for 3 seconds until the player indicator on the controller blinks according to the slot number you selected. The light bar blinks, and when you successfully switch slots, the player indicator lights up. Press and hold the action button that links to the slot you wish to change.

If all slots are in use, the slot you haven’t connected to for the longest time gets replaced.
You can’t pair wirelessly or switch slots to another PS5 console if the controller is already connected using a USB cable.

How to use your controller with a wired connection on a PS5 console

Need to charge your controller while playing? To use the DualSense Edge wireless controller with a wired connection, you first need to set the connection method.

Go to Settings > Accessories > Controller (General).
Select Communication Method and then select Use USB Cable.

You can now connect your controller using the USB cable provided. To make sure the cable isn’t accidentally disconnected, set up the connector housing.

Slide the latch on the connector housing to open it.
Insert the USB Type-C connector into the connector housing and close the lid.
Make sure that the USB Type-C connector is positioned correctly.

How to update DualSense Edge wireless controller software

DualSense Edge wireless controller software updates are added when you update your PS5 console system software.

To check for DualSense Edge wireless controller software updates:

Go to Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller.
Select DualSense Edge Wireless Controller Device Software to update the wireless controller device software.

How to charge your DualSense Edge wireless controller

While your PS5 console is on or in rest mode, connect the controller to your console using the included USB braided cable.

When the console is in rest mode, the light bar on the controller slowly blinks orange.
When charging is complete, the light bar turns off.
You can also charge the controller by connecting it to your computer or other USB device using a USB cable. Be sure to use a USB cable that complies with USB standards.
You may not be able to charge your controller on some devices.
You can charge the controller while it’s in its carrying case. Open the flap on the back of the carrying case to access the USB port.
