PlayStation Plus cloud storage for PS5 consoles

Find out how to use PlayStation®Plus cloud storage to copy and download saved data, and free up space on your PlayStation®5 console storage.

What is PlayStation Plus cloud storage?

Cloud storage is storage space on the network that you can use to copy your saved data. Upload saved data for a game on another PS5™  console or PS4™  console, and then download it to your console. Become a PlayStation Plus member to use cloud storage.

You can save up to 100 GB of PS5 saved data and 100 GB of PS4 saved data. The number of PS4 saved data files you can store is limited to 1000.

How to automatically sync PS5 console data with cloud storage

You can automatically sync your saved data with cloud storage when you close a game or put your console in rest mode.

Cloud storage sync requires automatic updates to be enabled.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Stay Connected to the Internet
  2. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then select Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4)
  3. For PS5 games, select Sync Saved Data > Auto-Sync Saved Data
  4. For PS4 games, select Auto-Upload

For PS5 games, both your console and cloud storage will sync to the most recent data. For PS4™ games, data is automatically uploaded to your cloud storage, but will need to be manually downloaded to PS5 console storage.

How to check sync status of games on PS5 consoles

For PS5 games, if you select Sync Saved Data > View Sync Status, you can check the sync status for each of your games. Alternatively, you can highlight a game from your games home, press the options button and then select Check Sync Status of Saved Data.

  • Pick up play on a friend's system
If you sign in to PlayStation™Network on a friend's PlayStation system, you can pick up from the last save on your online storage.
  • Upgrade/replacement
If you get a new PlayStation console, just sign in to PlayStation Network and download your saved data.
  • Crossplay games
These games can be downloaded and played on more than one type of PlayStation console. For example, if a game is compatible with both PS4 and PlayStation®Vita systems, you can start playing at home, upload your save and continue later on your PS Vita system.
  • PlayStation™Now
If you subscribe to PlayStation Now and pick up a game that you previously played on PS4, you can start from the last point you saved to online storage.
