How to change your PS VR2 play area

To access VR Mode and play VR games, you first need to set a space (play area) where you can safely use PS VR2.

  1. Turn on your PlayStation®VR2 system, go to the home screen and select Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2.

  2. Select Set Play Area to reset the play area when you need to edit or set a temporary play area.

  • The boundaries of your play area appear when you approach them. If you leave your play area, your game is paused, and the screen switches so you can see your surroundings.
  • Play areas aren’t used when in cinematic mode.

What are PS VR2 play styles?

There are three VR play styles to enjoy your VR games and apps:

Play while moving around. This requires a play area that's 2 m by 2 m (6 ft 7 in. by 6 ft 7 in.) or larger.

Play while sitting. This requires a play area that's 1 m by 1 m (3 ft 4 in. by 3 ft 4 in.) or larger. Make sure you have room to move your PlayStation VR2 Sense controller freely.

Play while standing. This requires a play area that's 1 m by 1 m (3 ft 4 in. by 3 ft 4 in.) or larger.

Make sure you have room to move your PS VR2 Sense controller freely.

The space required for a play area depends on the play style of the PS VR2 game you want to play. When you play roomscale games, you need the play area to be larger than 2m by 2m (6 ft 7 in. by 6 ft 7 in.).

Which play styles do my games support?

When buying a game or app, you can see which VR play styles are supported. The VR play styles appear in the following areas:

  • The details screen for digital games.
  • The packaging for disc games.
