A company overview and background

If you're confident that your product ideas align with what we're looking for, we'd love to hear from you. Here’s an example of the information we’ll require to get started (this isn’t an exhaustive list and may vary from product to product).

Company overview
  • Annual Report (if public) or information on company and capitalization
  • D.U.N.S. number or company registration number (if available)
  • Why you’re interested in the OLP programme
Overview of your existing products in the market and, in particular, information on any world-class product lines that are evergreen and/or could add value to SIE’s community.
  • Reseller presence in various regions (retailers, distributors, etc.) and information on historic presence in various markets / specific areas of interest.
Core brand differentiation versus other brands in the market.
Information on Company principles or values, quality standards and commitment to social and environmental compliance.
  • Sign a standard Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement
  • Complete SIE Due Diligence form
  • Share or present their product concept and business proposal
  • Discuss their business proposal in detail
  • Sign a peripheral licencing agreement should the concept be accepted
  • Business term commitments may include advances and minimum guarantees

What steps to expect throughout the process

We start the product approval workflow by reviewing initial concepts. We may request detailed information at this stage for specific product categories (if this information isn’t provided, the concept may not be progressed).

Once the concept is approved it is considered in development . A final “golden” sample will eventually need to be submitted for validation.

Depending on the category, additional test reports may be required for approval. Validation includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Device compatibility
  • Reliability
  • Quality
  • Functionality
  • Ongoing regression testing
  • Packaging review - packaging drafts are submitted for brand review.
  • Compliance review - each product submitted will need to provide relevant reports and declarations that show it complies with government regulations and standards in the territories where the products will be distributed.

If the above process has been completed and SIE has approved the product, we can begin to map out mass production and distribution plans with you.  During this time, we’ll also review launch plans and marketing opportunities.

Occasionally we may feel there’s a gap in our licencing portfolio and proactively send out a request for proposal (RFP). RFPs are category specific and available by invitation only . For each RFP, a specific set of minimum standards will be defined, documented, and shared. Each RFP opportunity will have a specified timeframe for receiving proposals.

What tools and support will I receive?

As a partner, you’ll be given access to a series of tools and reporting systems to develop your product’s route to market and post-launch support.

We’ll give you access to our branding and packaging guidelines as well as a digital repository of device images for the development of your marketing assets.

As a partner, you’ll be expected to provide quarterly reports, including royalties due and forecasting. Once you’re onboarded, we’ll share our templates and process documents with you.

There may be opportunities to include OLP peripherals and accessories on various PlayStation channels if appropriate, and subject to availability and marketing plans.

These could include online store listings, consumer engagement channels like email or social media, retail and sales support or events.
