We want to let you know that we’ve made some changes to:
- PlayStation Terms of Service
- PlayStation Code of Conduct
- PlayStation End User Licence Agreement (previously referred to as the “Software Usage Terms”)
We’ve made several changes throughout to improve clarity and transparency, including removing references to the PlayStation Network. The most notable changes are explained below. Please note, it’s not a list of all updates, so we recommend reading the full list of terms before continuing to use PlayStation Online Services.
PlayStation Terms of Service
- Section 7 - What other Terms apply when you use PlayStation Online Services?
We’ve updated this section to reflect new and updated terms that apply when you make purchases on PlayStation, including clearer references on what these terms cover and when they apply to you.
- Section 11 – Do we track what you do online?
We’ve added clearer information about how we help keep PlayStation Online Services safe, including the use of automated tools and proportionate enforcement measures.
- Section 12 and Section 18.19 - PlayStation Store purchases.
We’ve clarified how prices are displayed, including that prices include applicable VAT (or equivalent taxes), and that purchases of physical items (such as consoles, controllers or boxed games) are governed by separate PlayStation Physical Goods Terms of Purchase.
- Section 18.7 - Special Terms applying to some items that we sell (Subscriptions).
We’ve updated our subscription terms to clarify how ongoing payments are taken, how to stop future payments and how we notify you of subscription price increases.
- Section 19.7 – Content you create and share.
We’ve explained more clearly the actions we may take if you share any content that is illegal or breaches the Terms.
- Section 23.4.7 – Our liability to you when things go wrong.
We’ve updated this section to clarify that certain events outside our reasonable control may affect our ability to perform our obligations and that, in those circumstances, we will not be liable for any resulting failure or delay.
- Standalone Code of Conduct.
We’ve moved the PlayStation Code of Conduct out of the PlayStation Terms of Service so it now sits as a separate standalone document, while continuing to apply to your use of PlayStation Online Services.
PlayStation Code of Conduct
✓ Be discreet. Keep it decent
- We’ve updated this section to clarify and broaden the types of content that are not allowed on PlayStation, helping to explain the types of prohibited material to help keep the PlayStation community safe.
PlayStation End User Licence Agreement
- These terms used to be called the “Software Usage Terms”. We’ve updated the Software Usage Terms and renamed them as the PlayStation End User Licence Agreement (“PlayStation EULA”).
- Some terms in the PlayStation EULA only apply in certain countries or regions. We’ve signposted these terms where this is the case to help you understand which terms apply to you.For example, in section 1.2.2 we’ve explained which PlayStation company you form a contract with depending on where you live.
- We’ve also updated how the PlayStation EULA works, such as when it takes effect and how you can use the software covered by the PlayStation EULA. We’ve also explained more clearly the actions we may take if these rules are breached, which may include suspension or termination of your licence. In addition, we’ve explained our use of tools such as anti-cheat systems to detect and prevent misuse and behaviour that breaches our rules.
- We’ve described how in-game content and virtual items work within the software, including that virtual content is licenced to you (not owned by you and is subject to certain restrictions). We’ve also explained that games and in-game content may change over time, and that some items or features may only be available for a limited period.
- We’ve outlined how purchases of in-game content work, including that they are subject to the terms of the store you buy them from and may not always be available. We’ve also explained how third-party stores (such as those provided by Apple and Microsoft) may be involved when you purchase and access PlayStation software via and/or on their devices, including who is responsible for the software and what additional terms may apply to you.
