      Resident Evil 4, 2005’s legendary survival horror, is brought fully up-to-date in this ground-up remake.

      Six years after the events of Resident Evil 2, Raccoon City survivor Leon Kennedy has been dispatched to a secluded European village to investigate the disappearance of the US president’s daughter. What he discovers there is unlike anything he has faced before.

      Every aspect of the classic game has been updated for the current generation, from modernized graphics and controls, to a reimagined storyline that may surprise even hardened fans of the original game.

      Right from Resident Evil 4’s opening moments, seasoned players will feel like they’ve returned home – only the furniture isn’t where they left it. Expanded dialogue, reimagined cutscenes and restructured level layouts make familiar moments feel new and unpredictable again. Whether you’ve played the original or are visiting this terrifying world for the first time, there are plenty of surprises in store.

      Leon is even better equipped to battle the hordes of Ganados than before. Fans of the original will immediately notice the added fluidity and freedom to his movement, and all players will appreciate the renewed focus on Leon’s knife skills.

      Previously a last-resort weapon, knives are now an essential tool that enable stealth kills, last-second escapes and attack-deflecting parries.

      Revitalized

      A stunning graphical upgrade and fully redesigned audio takes the detail, the atmosphere and the animation of Resident Evil 4 to the next level. The PlayStation 5 version lets you prioritise frame rate or resolution, with support for ray tracing.

      The game also makes the most of the DualSense wireless controller’s features, using the internal speaker for radio communications, and utilising the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to give weapons an even greater sense of weight and power.

      Reorganized

      The satisfaction of a well-organised attaché case was one the original game’s subtler pleasures, allowing you to organize your inventory as efficiently – or as chaotically – as you liked.

      This iconic system returns for the remake, with the addition of an auto-sort feature for those who want to focus on the action, and a selection of unlockable cases and attachable charms that grant Leon a variety of perks.

      Retooled

      As with the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, it’s now possible to assign weapons to the directional pad and quick-swap between them in the heat of battle. With the right items, you can also create additional ammo – and you’re going to need it.

      Unique to the Resident Evil 4 remake is the ability to sell key items that are no longer useful for extra pesetas, and the repurposing of the collectible spinel gems as a tradable resource for unique items.

      Once human, the Ganado worship the leader of a religious cult, and now there is only madness in their eyes.

      Unlike zombies, the Ganado retain the intelligence they once possessed when they were human. They can attack in coordinated packs, and they are also capable of using weapons.

      There are also more fearsome and powerful Ganado with a variety of personalities, including the intimidating Chainsaw Man.

      Ranks are displayed when clearing the game, with information on how well you played. Aim for a higher rank or challenge yourself by replaying on a higher difficulty.
