How to troubleshoot PS4 console disc issues

If you’re having problems playing or loading some of your games on your PlayStation®4 console, try the following troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshoot PS4 console disc reading issues

Reinsert the disc into your console after each of these steps.

  1. Clean the disc with a soft, clean cloth to remove any dirt or prints.
  2. Try inserting another game, Blu-ray disc, or DVD.
PS4™ consoles can't play burned discs or audio CDs.
  3. Access Safe Mode and select option 5 Rebuild Database.
  1. If the Rebuild Database option doesn’t resolve the issue, access Safe Mode, and select option 7 Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software).
Warning: Selecting Safe Mode option 7 deletes all information on the console, including the System Software. Visit the guide below to download the reinstallation version of the PS4 console system software.
