How to troubleshoot picture and sound issues with your PS5 console

Find out how to resolve picture and sound issues on PlayStation®5 consoles.

No image output from your PS5 console?

If your PS5® console and screen are turned on but there is no image, please try the following steps:

  1. Check the HDMI connection
Make sure you have a secure connection to both your PS5 console and the screen using the included HDMI cable. If possible, try using a different HDMI cable. If your screen has multiple HDMI ports, try using a different one. Make sure to also have the correct channel selected for HDMI.

We recommend using the HDMI 2.1 cable that is included with your PS5 console so you can get the best out of the console's new high-performance features. However, older HDMI cables can be used too.

The PS5 console supports HDMI 2.1 specifications and also supports 4K 120Hz video output. This means you can enjoy smoother gameplay and higher frame rates when using a compatible TV or monitor.

  1. Connect directly to the HDMI port
Connect the PS5 console directly to the HDMI port on the screen. If you have other devices connected to your screen (sound bar, home theater, game capture devices, etc.), disconnect them to see if this fixes the issue.
  1. Turn the power back on
Turn off your screen and PS5 console completely. Disconnect their power cables, wait 20 minutes, and then reconnect the power cables again. Turn on everything and check the image.
  2. Check the device firmware
Make sure your screen has the latest firmware version. Refer to the manufacturer's user manual for additional settings needed for high-resolution signals.

  1. Adjust audio settings
Make sure your screen and any other audio devices aren’t muted and that the volume is loud enough.
  2. Check audio output settings
Make sure your PS5 console audio output is set to a HDMI device.
  1. Update system software
If you're experiencing sound issues, try updating your PS5 console system software to the latest version.
  1. Check the HDMI cable
A faulty HDMI cable can cause audio problems. Try using a different HDMI cable to see if it fixes the problem.
