Confirm the Power Switch Position

  • Confirm the power switch on the PlayStation Portable system is turned on by sliding the Power/Hold switch up (and release).  The solid green (or orange) light should turn on if there is power going to the PlayStation Portable system.
  • Try sliding the Power/Hold switch up and holding it there until the power indicator light turns off and the PlayStation Portable system is completely turned off.  Then try turning the PlayStation Portable on again.
  • Make sure the PlayStation Portable system is not in Hold Mode (in the down position).  Slide the Power/Hold switch up to clear Hold Mode.

Try the PlayStation Portable Battery Only

Unplug the AC Adaptor from the PlayStation Portable system.  Make sure a charged PlayStation Portable battery is inserted inside the PlayStation Portable system.  Turn on the unit.  If you get power, then the problem may be with the AC Adaptor and power cable.

Try the AC Adaptor and Power Cable Only

Turn off the PlayStation Portable system, unplug the AC Adaptor, and remove the battery.  Now plug in the AC Adaptor to the PlayStation Portable system with the battery removed.  If the PlayStation Portable system powers on, the battery may need to be replaced.

Try the AC Adaptor and the PlayStation Portable Battery

Insert the PlayStation Portable battery and plug in the AC Adaptor.  If you still do not get any power, your PlayStation Portable system may need to be sent in for service.

Confirm the AC Adaptor, Power Cable, and Power Source

  • Confirm the AC Adaptor and power cord is firmly connected to each other.  Now make sure it is also firmly connected to the PlayStation Portable system and the electrical outlet.
  • Visually inspect the AC Adaptor and the power cord for damage.  Do not use if frayed, cut, or damaged in any way.
  • Confirm the electrical outlet is active (receiving power).  Try a different electrical outlet if necessary.
  • Try using a different AC Adaptor and power cable.  (If a different AC Adaptor and power cable do not work, the PlayStation Portable system may need to be sent in for service.)

Confirm the PlayStation Portable Battery Pack

  • Try using your battery pack on a different PlayStation Portable system to see if the problem is with the battery.  (If your battery works on a different PlayStation Portable system, it may indicate an issue with your PlayStation Portable system.)
  • Try using a different battery pack on your PlayStation Portable system to see if it resolves the problem.  (If a different battery pack does work on your PlayStation Portable system, it may indicate an issue with the original battery pack.)

Confirm no Unauthorised system software was used

Confirm that you have not used any unauthorised software updates (downloads) on the PlayStation Portable system.  Use of such unauthorised software updates voids the warranty and can damage the PlayStation Portable system.

Additional Troubleshooting

  • Make sure the Wireless (WLAN) network function is not in use while charging.  The battery pack cannot be recharged when the WLAN function is being used.
  • If you experienced a power surge, shortage, or a lightning storm in your geographical area recently, this may have affected the PlayStation Portable system's power supply.  Contact Consumer Services.
