How to connect your PS4 to the Internet and PlayStation Network

This article explains how to set up a wired or wireless connection on your PS4 system to access the Internet and PSN.

Wired connection (LAN)

Your PS4 system has to be connected to your router via an Ethernet cable.

  1. From the PS4 home screen, go to [Settings] > [Network] > [Set Up Internet Connection].
 
 
  1. Select [Use a LAN Cable].
 
 
  1. Select how you want to set up your connection: [Easy] or [Custom].

Your PS4 system will automatically detect your network and connect to it.
You can manually set the following settings before your PS4 system connects to the network:
  • IP address
  • DHCP Host Name
  • DNS
  • MTU
  • Proxy

Important: If you are not familiar with such parameters, please select [Easy] or obtain this information from your ISP or network administrator.

If the connection is successful, you will be prompted to [Test Internet Connection], finalising the setup process.

Note: PlayStation Network Sign-in will fail when testing your Internet connection. To access PlayStation Network you need to sign in with you PSN account details. Head to [Settings] > [PlayStation Network/Account Management] > [Sign In], or create a new account.

If the connection is successful, you will be prompted to [Test Internet Connection], finalising the setup process.

Note: PlayStation Network Sign-in will fail when testing your Internet connection. To access PlayStation Network you need to sign in with you PSN account details. Head to [Settings] > [PlayStation Network/Account Management] > [Sign In], or create a new account.

Wireless network (Wi-Fi)

  1. From the PS4 home screen, go to [Settings] > [Network] > [Set Up Internet Connection].
 
 
  1. Select [Use Wi-Fi].
 
 
  1. Select how you want to set up your connection: [Easy] or [Custom].

Your PS4 system will automatically detect any wireless networks available within its range and will automatically connect to the one you select.

  • IP address
  • DHCP Host Name

  • Proxy

Note: If the Wi-Fi network you want your PS4 system to connect to is password protected, it will display a padlock icon on the right side of the screen.

 

You will need to enter the home network security code (WPA, WPA2, WEP). This code may be found:

  • on the back of your router
  • by contacting your network administrator
  • by contacting your ISP

If successful connected, you will be prompted to [Test Internet Connection], finalising the setup process.
