How to deactivate a PlayStation 3 system

Find out how to deactivate your PlayStation 3 from your SEN account.

 
 

This is useful in case you want to activate a new device, but you have reached the activation limit for the type of device.

You can deactivate your PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation 3 itself.

You cannot deactivate it using a PlayStation 4, PS Vita, PS TV or PSP.

You can deactivate your PlayStation 3 for Game using a PC/Mac connected to the internet.

To deactivate your PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation 3 itself:

  1. Select your local user account and go to [PlayStation Network] > [Sign-in] > [Account Management].
  2. Go to [System Activation] and highlight 'PS3'.
  3. Select the type of content you want to deactivate for your PlayStation 3 and press (X button).
  4. Highlight 'Deactivate System' and press (X button).
  5. Your device is now deactivated for the selected content type.

How do I deactivate my PlayStation 3 if I do not have access to it?

You can use a PC, Mac or mobile device connected to the internet to remotely deactivate Game content on all of your PlayStation systems at once. This is helpful if you no longer have access to your PlayStation system to deactivate it.

You can reach Account Management in a number of ways:

  • PlayStation App

Tap [PlayStation Store] on the home screen and go to [Online ID] > [Account Settings].

  • PlayStation Store

Go to PlayStation Store. Sign in, go to your Online ID at the top of the page and click [Account Settings].

  • Account Management website

Click here and sign in for the account management site.

  1. Go to the Account tab and select [Media and Devices].
  2. Next to (Game) click [Deactivate All].
  3. Select 'Yes' when you are asked if you want to continue.
  4. All of your devices are now deactivated for Game content.

You can only perform this deactivation once every 6 months, so please deactivate your PlayStation systems using one of the methods above if possible.

If this does not immediately deactivate your system and you find you still cannot make your purchase shut your system down and restart it. This will usually correct the issue.

* If you deactivate your PlayStation 3 for video content and then reactivate it or activate a new PlayStation 3 system, you will not be able to re-download previously downloaded video content from your system download list.

If you have purchased a new PlayStation 3, you can download your existing video content to your new system by contacting us - we will reset your content so you can download it to your new system.
