How to use PlayStation 4 to create a SEN account

This article explains how to set up a Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) account on your PlayStation 4.

What is a SEN account?

You need a Sony Entertainment Network account to use PlayStation Network services. It's free to create an account and you do not need to provide any payment details. However, your wallet will require funding for some services.

If you already have an account and you have a new PlayStation system you do not need to create a new account, simply sign in to PlayStation Network with your existing account details.

Once your account has been created we advise that you find out more about how to manage account functions.

IMPORTANT

When you create your account please make sure that you provide all requested information accurately in line with the the Community Code of Conduct to ensure you do not experience problems with password resets or purchases in future.

If you are under 18 you cannot create a master account which allows immediate access to PlayStation Network.
If you are not over 18 but you create a master account by giving the wrong date of birth, this breaks the Terms of Service and you might find that the account gets banned. When an account is banned this means that the Online ID and any trophies is lost and you might also lose access to content that you have purchased.

If you are under 13 you can use a sub account after it has been created for you.
If you are under 13 , ask your parent or guardian to set up a master account using the instructions shown below and add an associated sub account that you can use.

If you are 13 or over you can create a local account on your PS4
This means you can get started with your PlayStation 4 system’s offline features straight away without waiting for your parent or guardian to create a sub account for you. However, there are some limits to what you can do with the account before it gets confirmed by your parent or guardian:

  • You cannot sign-in to PlayStation Network
  • You cannot start any games downloaded from PlayStation Store
  • You cannot download content from the Library or PlayStation Store
  • You cannot edit your PlayStation Network profile

If your parent or guardian does not confirm your account before the time limit expires, you might lose your Online ID and you’ll need to choose a new one.  Ask your parent or guardian to go to [Settings] > [PlayStation Network/Account Management] from your local PS4 sign-in to confirm your account.

How do I create an account?

  1. Press the ‘PS’ button on the PlayStation 4 controller and either select your local user or create a new user.
  2. Read and accept the ‘User Agreement’.
  3. On the ‘Sign in to PlayStation Network' screen select [New to PlayStation Network? Create an Account] (if you already have an account simply sign-in with these details and select your preferences).
  4. Enter your details and preferences and select [Next] on each screen.
  5. If, when you enter your date of birth you are under 18, a parent or guardian will need to link your account to their master account.
  6. We will send you a link by email. Click on the link to verify your email address.
  7. Sign-in to your account and enjoy PlayStation Network!
