Sega brings the baize and the balls into High Definition with World Snooker Championship 2007.

Blade Interactive has carved out a great reputation as a developer of fine snooker simulations over the last few years, and on the strength of World Snooker Championship 2007 - the first version for PlayStation 3 - it's a reputation that's not in any danger.

WSC 2007 refines the gameplay of the series, and offers a gentle, enjoyable experience that allows mere mortals to build the kind of breaks that only the world's greats can manage in real life.

    On for a 147

Thanks to a range of guides - which can be adjusted to make the game more or less difficult, depending on your tastes - you can judge the power and line of your shots with a finesse that's pretty tricky on a real table. There's even a circle which helps to predict where the cue ball will end up. It means you can concentrate on the strategy of the game, by methodically building a break, making for some thoughtful and thoroughly satisfying gameplay.

Of course, as the official game of world snooker, there's a full line-up of realistically modelled pro players, and 10 real-world tournaments to enter. There's also pool and trick shots on offer, if you're after something a little more quick-fire than snooker. Either way, World Snooker Championship is a satisfying take on the popular sport.
