    Every second counts

Welcome to Unit 13, the elite squad whose objective is clear: complete the mission using any means necessary. You’ll be joining a team of operatives hand-picked to deal swiftly and decisively with any situation, anywhere in the world.

Every wasted second could mean another enemy bullet fired in anger, so it’s crucial to gather all the information you need without delay. The status bar at the top of the Main Menu provides a rolling stream of updates, including newly unlocked challenges, your recent achievements and weapon upgrades. You can then use this intel to decide which mission to tackle.

Deployed to a target zone moments later, you’ll be struck by its crisp visuals which let you assess the situation quickly. Market towns with their network of stalls, sprawling hotels and streets of abandoned cars – every environment conceals possible ambushes and deadly blind spots.

Unit 13 is no holiday, despite its eye-popping backdrop of sun-baked boulevards and exotic buildings. Get caught sightseeing and you’ll be flying home in a body bag.

    Men on a mission

Five punishing mission types will push your skills and resolve to the very limit; all demand ruthless efficiency and a cool head in the face of enemy fire.

Direct Action missions drop you into a war zone with multiple goals to achieve. One early mission involves sabotaging a jet engine and then fighting through a secure facility to obtain secret documents. Elite directives feature a similar blend of tasks, only checkpoints are removed and health regeneration is limited.

Patience pays off in both instances, yet it’s not a luxury you can afford in Covert or Deadline missions. If an enemy or CCTV camera spots you during a Covert deployment, you have precious few seconds to neutralise them before the alarm is raised. The clock, meanwhile, is your biggest threat in a Deadline assignment. Lastly, Dynamic operations pitch you into a randomly generated set of objectives, so even though the location may be familiar, you won’t know what’s around the corner.

Kill streaks, accuracy and speed all influence your crucial star rating, with the PS Vita system’s dual analog sticks offering the pinpoint precision needed. Amass enough stars and you’ll get the opportunity to hunt down deadly High Value Targets, enhancing your own reputation via online leaderboards.

    Partner power

Double your impact by teaming up with another player via PlayStation Network in Unit 13’s Co-op Mode. Work together with a partner in any of the game types and nothing will stand in your way – and if something does prove tough to break down, you can simply alter your tactics to work around it.

Analyse each mission’s objectives, then decide on the make-up of your deadly duo. One of you might choose to go with the recommended operative for a particular sortie, while the other could select a contrasting soldier. In a Covert mission, for instance, you might want to pair Ringo’s stealth skills with Alabama’s sharp shooting – perfect for taking out cameras from a distance.

Check out the status bar in the Main Menu for details of brand new Daily Challenges, the unique missions that are updated every 24 hours and are only available for a day at a time. Pitting you against players from far and wide, these contests add an extra layer of competition: the score you post will be under attack – so unless you’re quick off the mark, you may run out of time to improve your rating before the daily window slams shut.
