How to set up family accounts on PSN

Learn how to create family manager, guardian and child accounts for your family on PlayStation™Network (PSN).

How to become a family manager

To set up your family on PSN, you need to create an adult account before creating accounts for your children.

The adult who creates a child account is known as the family manager. The family manager can:

  • Manage play time. 
  • Manage purchases from the family manager wallet. 
  • Manage access to games, videos, and applications. 
  • Disable text, video, and voice chat messages. 
  • Block user-generated video, streams, and pictures. 
  • Appoint other adults in the family as “guardians.” This allows them to set and change controls on all the child family members (including how much can be spent from your wallet).

How to add child family members

  1. Sign in to Account Management > Family Management > Add Family Member
  2. Select Add a Child
  3. Enter the child's name and date of birth, then click Next.
  4. The User Agreement will appear and you'll need to accept this to continue. Then follow the on-screen instructions to set parental controls.
  1. Sign in as the family manager and go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management > Add Family Member.
  2. Scan the QR code on your mobile device to set up a child account.

  2. Select Add Family Member > Create User.
  3. Enter the child's name and date of birth, then click Next.
  4. The User Agreement will appear and you'll need to accept this to continue. Then follow the on-screen instructions to set parental controls.

How to add adult family members

  1. Sign in to Account Management > Family Management > Add Family Member
  2. Select Add an Adult
  3. Enter the adult's email, and click Next.
  1. Sign in as the family manager and go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management > Add Family Member
  2. Scan the QR code on your mobile device to set up an adult account.

  2. Select Add Family Member
  3. Here you can either invite an existing account or create a new local user.

How to remove adult family members

  1. Sign in to Account Management > Family Management. 
  2. Select the adult family member. 
  3. Select Remove from Your Family.
    Removing a family member who is a parent or guardian also removes their ability to set parental controls.

  2. Select the adult family member. 
  3. Select Remove from Your Family.

  1. Sign in to Account Management > Family Management
  2. Select the adult family member you want to appoint, and select the checkbox for Parent/Guardian.

  2. Scan the QR code on your mobile device to add a parent or guardian.
