What is a gacha game?

A gacha game is a genre of game that centres around a randomised reward system, inspired by toy capsule vending machines in arcades (called gachapon in Japan). 

In gacha games, players spend in-game currency to "pull" for characters, weapons, items or cosmetics. These pulls unlock random rewards, often with a range of rarities. Players can earn in-game currency for pulls either by engaging with activities in the world or by purchasing them via the in-game store.

Gacha games feature engaging gameplay and character progression, and sometimes seasonal live service updates for their worlds.
