What is PlayStation®Plus?

PlayStation Plus is a subscription service that enhances your existing free account for PlayStation Network and helps you to get the most out of your PS4.

PlayStation Plus is available to purchase in all countries that have access to PlayStation Store.

What are the benefits?

PlayStation Plus is required for PS4 online multiplayer gaming. In addition, PlayStation Plus membership includes monthly PS4 games to download, exclusive PlayStation Store discounts, and 100GB of cloud storage for game saves.

If you have a PlayStation Plus membership, you’ll be able to access all of your member benefits on any PS4 system that you sign in to. Additionally, other users who sign in to PSN to play games on your primary PS4 console will be able to play online multiplayer modes in those games.

Can I try PlayStation Plus before I subscribe?

If you have never been a member of PlayStation Plus before, you can try it free for 14 days. Unless you cancel your subscription before the end of your 14 day trial period, your trial subscription will automatically roll into a paid-for, ongoing subscription with a recurring monthly fee, which will be deducted from your PSN wallet.

When you sign up for a free trial, you will need to provide payment details, and the option to ‘Fund wallet automatically’ will be switched on. This means that if your wallet does not have enough funds when your subscription fee is due, we will use the payment method registered to your account (if any) to top up your wallet with the amount needed to pay the subscription fee. Your payment details will be saved and used for future purchases until you decide to delete them. You can turn off automatic funding and/or delete your payment details by going to [Account Settings] > [Wallet] > [Wallet Settings].

We will not debit your chosen payment method to top up your wallet, or take payment from wallet funds, until your free trial ends.

You will not be eligible for a free trial if you have previously trialled or subscribed to PlayStation Plus. If you are not able to start a free trial but you believe you have never been a member of PlayStation Plus, please check your Transaction History. If there is no record of a previous PlayStation Plus membership, please contact our customer service team for assistance.

Alternatively, you can find out how to subscribe here.

If you want to continue with your subscription after your free trial

When your free trial ends it will automatically roll into a paid-for ongoing PlayStation Plus subscription with recurring monthly billing, so you don’t need to do anything to continue with your membership. If you prefer to sign up to a different subscription payment plan (with quarterly or annual billing), simply go to PlayStation Store and purchase a new subscription with the billing frequency you want, a minimum of 24 hours before the free trial ends. Your free trial will then automatically roll into your chosen subscription payment plan.

If you already have a subscription, and choose to purchase additional subscriptions, they will ‘stack’. This means that when your next payment is due, instead of taking payment, that subscription will end and the next subscription in your stack will begin. This will continue until there are no more stacked subscriptions, at which time the final one will continue until cancelled, subject to us being able to take successful payment each time payment is due.

For example, if you have purchased a subscription with a 3 month billing period and within that 3 months you purchase a second subscription with a 12 month billing period, after the initial 3 months, the subscription will become a subscription which is billed every 12 months.

Whichever payment plan you choose, you will be placed on a recurring payment plan by default and the option to ‘Fund wallet automatically’ will be switched on.

If you want to cancel your subscription after your free trial or switch off auto-renew

You can cancel your subscription up to 24 hours before the end of your trial and you will not be charged.

You can find details of how to cancel your subscription by switching off auto-renew here.

How to buy a PlayStation Plus membership

You need an account for PlayStation Network to subscribe, as well as a valid payment method (e.g. a credit card or PayPal account) that is linked to your account.

You can buy a PlayStation Plus membership via:

  • PlayStation Store on your PS4 system
  • PlayStation Store on the web
  • PlayStation Plus gift card from a physical store (voucher code)

How to join PS Plus if you’re aged 18 or younger

If you are aged between seven and 18 years old, you can purchase a subscription (except users in Germany who must be aged 18 or over). However, there are a few things to consider:

  • You will need your parent or guardian’s consent to make the purchase.
  • Auto funding will not work for accounts of users under 18. To make the initial purchase and for the subscription to continue into subsequent billing periods, your Family Manager will need to provide you with sufficient wallet funds to pay each recurring subscription fee when it becomes due. In addition, you will need to be within the monthly spending limits (if any) set up by your Family Manager/Guardian.
  • You can cancel your subscription as described below.
  • Access to PlayStation Plus content and services will vary according to your age.

How to check if the subscription has been purchased successfully

You will receive a purchase confirmation email when you subscribe which, like all important account information, will be sent to the email address you use as your sign in ID. If you do not have access to this email address you can learn how to change your Sign-in ID here.

You will find also find a record in [Services List] on your PlayStation system or in [Media] > [Games] in Account Management on PC.

What happens when your PlayStation Plus membership is cancelled

If you cancel your PlayStation Plus membership you will continue to have access to all of your PlayStation Plus membership benefits until the end of any previously purchased subscription periods. Cancelling your membership will stop future payments of the subscription fees but we will not provide refunds for subscription fees previously paid, unless required by local law or the PlayStation Store cancellation policy.

Once your PlayStation Plus membership ends, content you previously downloaded at no cost as part of the membership (such as PS Plus Monthly Games) will no longer be available. However, free avatars and content you purchased at a discounted PlayStation Plus price are yours to keep.

If your PlayStation Plus membership expires and you return at a later date, you will regain access to content that you have previously downloaded through PlayStation Plus.

We may close your account if you don’t use it for 24 months.

Please note that if your membership is cancelled as a result of an account ban (e.g. due to breach of the Community Code of Conduct), you will not be refunded for any unused period of your membership in line with the PSN Terms of Service.

Accessing PlayStation Plus benefits from other user accounts and PlayStation systems

While you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, other people using your PS4 system can use some of your PlayStation Plus membership benefits without subscribing to PlayStation Plus from their own accounts.

PS Plus monthly games

PS Plus monthly games is a library of PS4  games available for you to download and play at no extra cost throughout the course of your PlayStation Plus membership (titles and availability vary depending on your age and region). Each month two PS4 games are added to the PS Plus monthly games library.

If you’ve downloaded a game or added it to your download list before it is removed from PS Plus monthly games, you will be able to play it for as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus. If your PlayStation Plus membership ends, or you choose to cancel your membership, you will not be able to access any content downloaded as part of the PS Plus monthly games, but you will regain access when you purchase a new membership.

PlayStation Plus online storage

If you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber you can use online storage to upload game progress to cloud storage so that you can continue playing from where you left off – even if you are at a friend’s house using their PS4.

If you have Automatic Update activated on your PS4 system your game saves will automatically save to the cloud ready for you to pick up on another system. Alternatively, you can manually upload and download your games saves via the [Settings] menu of your PS4.

Gifting or transferring PlayStation Plus

You cannot transfer a PlayStation Plus membership purchased on PlayStation Store to another account.

You can buy a wallet top-up voucher code for a Family Manager account holder and they can add these funds to their wallet for the child family member(s) to use in purchasing a PlayStation Plus membership.

You can buy a PlayStation Plus membership gift card or voucher code in a variety of high street and online retailers and the recipient can redeem this on their account.
