What is PlayStation®Plus?

PlayStation®Plus is a subscription service that enhances your existing free Sony Entertainment Network account and helps you to get the most out of your PS4™, PS3™, and PlayStation®Vita systems.

PlayStation®Plus is available to purchase in all countries that have access to PlayStation®Store.

What are the benefits?

When you become a member of PlayStation®Plus, you will have access to premium gaming features and special offers on content for your PS4™, PS3™ and PlayStation®Vita systems. Please see the table on this page to find out more about what PlayStation®Plus features are available on your PlayStation systems.

Can I Try PlayStation®Plus before I subscribe?

If you have never tried PlayStation®Plus before, you may be offered a free trial when you first switch on your new PlayStation system and sign in to your Sony Entertainment Network account. If you use a free trial it will usually renew into a monthly subscription, but please check other subscription options to find the best plan for you.

We will ask for your credit card details when you sign up for a free trial and may switch on ‘Automatically Add Funds to Renew Subscriptions or Pay for Pre-ordered Content’, when you sign up for a free trial. This means that if your wallet does not have enough funds when your subscription is due for renewal we will use your associated credit card to top up your wallet with the minimum amount to pay for the renewal (whichever is the greater amount).

We will not debit your credit card to top up your wallet or take payment from wallet funds until your free trial ends. We are usually unable to offer free trials to sub account holders.

You will not be offered a free trial if you have previously trialled or subscribed to PlayStation®Plus. If you are not offered a free trial but you believe you have never been a member of PlayStation®Plus, please check your Transaction History. If there is no record of a previous PlayStation®Plus membership, please contact us for assistance. Alternatively, you can find out how to subscribe here.

If you want to continue with your subscription after your free trial

When your free trial ends it will usually automatically renew into a monthly PlayStation®Plus subscription, so you don’t need to do anything to continue membership. If you prefer to sign up to a different subscription plan, simply go to PlayStation®Store and purchase a new subscription before the free trial ends. This will stop your subscription from renewing into a monthly subscription.

If you purchase more than one subscription they will ‘stack’. This means that the second subscription will not start running until the first has ended. For example, if you buy two 3 month subscriptions, this will total six months of PlayStation®Plus membership.

If you want to cancel your subscription after your free trial

You can cancel your subscription up to 24 hours before the end of your trial and you will not be charged. You can find details of how to cancel your subscription below.

How to buy PlayStation®Plus membership

You need a Sony Entertainment Network master account or sub account to subscribe. If you have an existing PlayStation®Plus membership, this will transfer to any new PlayStation system (including PS4™, PS3™ and PlayStation®Vita) when you sign in with your Sony Entertainment Network account.

How to purchase a subscription

  • Master accounts

A master account can use wallet funds to purchase a PlayStation®Plus subscription. For your convenience, when you subscribe we will usually switch on the wallet function 'Automatically add funds to renew subscriptions or Pay for Pre-ordered Content'. This is so your membership can automatically renew, even when you do not have enough wallet funds, subject to the requirements listed on this page.

  • Sub accounts

Sub account holders can also join PlayStation®Plus, but the way they can purchase membership is limited because these accounts are specifically for younger SEN users. Sub accounts can only spend funds from the master account wallet (subject to PEGI ratings and monthly spending limits set by the master account holder - you can find out more about parental controls here).

Sub account holders do not have a wallet attached to their account and cannot link a credit or debit card to their account for their subscription to automatically renew. This means that a sub account can only purchase a non-renewing subscription with a voucher code.

The sub account holder will need to purchase a new subscription when they need to renew. If the sub account holder redeems a PlayStation®Plus voucher code on their account before the end of their current subscription, the new subscription will only begin when the old subscription expires. For example, if they buy two 3 month subscriptions, this will total six months of PlayStation®Plus membership.

How to check if the subscription has been purchased successfully

You will receive a purchase confirmation email when you subscribe, which like all important account information, will be sent to the address you use as your sign in ID. If you do not have access to this email address you can learn how to change your Sign-in ID here.

You will find also find a record in [Services List] on your PlayStation system or in [Media] > [Games] in Account Management on PC. The associated master account can also view sub account transactions to check any purchases made.

PlayStation®Plus prices and payment options

Subscriptions

There are a number of PlayStation®Plus automatically renewing membership options available. Visit your local PlayStation®Store for the latest deals.

Payment

Master account holders can use any of the accepted wallet top up methods to top up their wallet and use wallet funds to subscribe. They can also purchase a PlayStation®Plus gift card in a variety of online and retail stores to redeem on PlayStation®Store.

If you add credit or debit card details to your master account, we will store them and may automatically use them to top up your wallet if you do not have enough wallet funds to cover the cost of renewal. If you do not want your subscription to auto-renew at the end of the period, you will need to cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

Sub account holders can only subscribe using a PlayStation®Plus voucher purchased from a store or online retailer. Subscriptions for sub accounts do not automatically renew.

Subscription price changes

If the price of your subscription rises, you will be notified by an email sent to the address used as your Sign-in ID before your wallet is debited at the new price. If you do not have access to this email address simply sign-in to account management to change it. Follow the step by step instructions here.

If you do not wish to pay the new price you will have plenty of time to cancel your subscription before it automatically renews.

What happens when your PlayStation®Plus membership is cancelled

If you cancel your PlayStation®Plus membership you will continue to have access to all of your PlayStation®Plus membership benefits until the end of any previously purchased subscription periods. We do not provide refunds for subscription charges previously paid in line with the PlayStation®Store Cancellation Policy, unless required by local law.

Once your PlayStation®Plus membership ends, content you previously downloaded at no cost as part of the membership (such as Plus Monthly Games) will no longer be available. However, free avatars and content you purchased at a discounted PlayStation®Plus price is yours to keep.

If your PlayStation®Plus membership expires and you renew it at a later date, you will regain access to content that you have previously downloaded through PlayStation®Plus.

We may close your account if you don’t use it for 24 months.

Please note that if your membership is cancelled as a result of a ban due to breach of the Community Code of Conduct you will not be refunded for any unused period of your membership in line with the SEN Terms of Service.

Accessing PlayStation®Plus benefits from other user accounts and PlayStation systems

While you are a PlayStation®Plus subscriber, other people using your PS3™ system or PS4™ system can use some of your PlayStation®Plus membership benefits without subscribing to PlayStation®Plus from their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts.

You can also use your PlayStation®Plus membership benefits on other people’s PS3™ system or PS4™ systems.

PlayStation®Vita allows only one user at any time. Therefore, PlayStation®Plus benefits cannot be shared.

For full information about the benefits that can be shared please see this article.

Monthly Plus Games

Monthly Plus Games is a library of PS4™, PS3™ and PlayStation®Vita games available for you to download and play at no extra cost throughout the course of your PlayStation®Plus membership (titles and availability vary depending on your age and region). Each month a selection of games is added to Monthly Plus Games - some will be available for one month only and others will be available for longer.

If you’ve downloaded a game or added it to your download list before it is removed from Monthly Plus Games, you will be able to play it for as long as you are a member of PlayStation®Plus. If your PlayStation®Plus membership renewal fails, or you choose to cancel your membership, you will not be able to access any content downloaded as part of the Plus Monthly Games, but you will regain access when you purchase a new membership.

PlayStation®Plus Online Storage

If you are a PlayStation®Plus subscriber you can use Online Storage to upload game progress to cloud storage so that you can continue playing from where you left off – even if you are at a friend’s house using their PS3™ or PS4™.

Some games are shown in PlayStation®Store as being ‘crossplay’. These games can be downloaded and played on different types of PlayStation systems. For example if you download a game to both to your PlayStation®Vita and PS3™, you can play it on either system. With online storage, you can save your progress on one system and then continue on the other system later on.

If you have Automatic Update activated on your PlayStation system your game saves will automatically save on PlayStation®Network ready for you to pick up on another system. Alternatively, use the methods here to manually upload and download your games saves.

Gifting or transferring PlayStation®Plus

You cannot transfer a PlayStation®Plus membership purchased on PlayStation®Store or Sony Entertainment Network Store to another account.

You can buy a wallet top-up voucher code for a master account holder and the recipient can add these funds to their wallet for use in purchasing a PlayStation®Plus membership.

You can buy a PlayStation®Plus membership gift card or voucher code in a variety of high street and online retailers and the recipient can redeem this on their account. This is the only way that a sub account may subscribe to PlayStation®Plus.
