Why can’t I change my country of residence?

This article explains why you are not able to change the country attached to your SEN account.

Once you have created your SEN account, you cannot change the country in which it is registered. This is because switching countries may cause the following problems:

  • PlayStation Store content from other regions may not be compatible with your PlayStation system region code and would mean that you cannot download your purchases.
  • Downloadable game add-ons are region locked, so if you have a disc from a country other than the country in which your account was created you will find that you cannot download DLC for that title from PlayStation Store in your country.
  • Content may not be available in your language in another country’s PlayStation Store.
  • You can only view videos purchased or rented in the country in which your account was created due to either licensing or certification restrictions.
  • There could be authorisation problems with using credit or debit cards.
  • You would experience difficulty using PlayStation Network top up vouchers.

We do not switch your SEN account associated country to ensure that you do not experience any of these problems.

When you move country you do not lose access to your previously purchased content on your Download List, but content that you need to download from PlayStation Store may not be available.

Moving to another country within the same PlayStation region

The PlayStation Europe region includes all countries within Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Oceania. Your PlayStation system’s region coding will not cause difficulty accessing PlayStation Store in another country within the PlayStation Europe region.

If you would like to use PlayStation Store in a new country within the same PlayStation region we recommend setting up a new account registered in your new country. You can link this account with a new local user on your PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 to share downloaded content across either account. This option is not available on PS Vita, PS TV or PSP as these systems only allow one local user account.

Please make sure that content is in the correct language before your purchase as we cannot refund any purchases in line with the PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy.

Moving to another country outside of the PlayStation Europe region

The PlayStation Europe region includes all countries within Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Oceania. When you move country outside of PlayStation Europe you do not lose access to your Download List provided the system you are using to access the content is from the same region. To make purchases from PlayStation Store in your new country of residence you may need to purchase a new PlayStation system from a local store.

For example, if you move to the US you will need to use your non-US PlayStation system to access your non-US content and you will need to buy a US PlayStation system to set up a US account and make purchases through the US PlayStation Store*.

*Please check region compatibility before purchasing your PlayStation system and only use credit or debit cards or PlayStation Network Cards from the country in which you set up your new SEN account.

When your new account is created

Trophies, content and your online ID cannot be transferred to or duplicated on your new account. We are sorry if this is the cause of any disappointment.
