Can’t add credit or debit card to PSN account

What to try if you can’t link your payment card to your PSN account.

Here’s a list of what can cause problems and how you can fix it.

  1. PSN availability

Check PSN service status.

If PlayStation Store or account management are marked red or amber, there could be an issue with PSN. Wait until all services are up and running before trying again.

  1. Does PlayStation Store accept the type of card?

Check the accepted payment methods article to make sure.

  1. Double check the card details

It might seem obvious, but make sure that all the info you entered exactly matches your card.

  1. Could the billing address be an issue?
    • Name or address containing special characters
    • If your address has a flat number or your name or address contain special characters either replace them with the nearest letter from the standard 26 letter Latin alphabet or delete them if this isn’t possible.
    • Don’t use characters that aren’t letters, like asterisks (*), hyphens (-), apostrophes (') and slashes ( / ).
    • Characters that are letters need to be translated to their Latin alphabet version. For example, for ‘ß’ use ‘ss’, for ‘ä’ use ‘ae’ or for ‘ç’ use ‘c’.
  • Card billing address must match PSN account address

Change the address on your PSN account if they don’t match. If the country in which your bank operates and the country you chose when creating your PSN account don’t match, you won’t be able to use this card on this account.

You can’t change the country of your PSN account, even if you contact us - the only solution is create a new account. You’ll be able to access the purchases made on your new account from your old one but check the further information in the why you can’t change your PSN account address article in case, for example you need accounts in different regions, not countries.

  • Use a card with a street billing address

Don’t use a PO Box or military mail address for example.

  1. Too many attempts

We limit how often you can change your card information to help keep PSN accounts as secure as we can. This means that if you try to save card info too many times, we’ll stop you from adding it.

Wait 48 hours after your last attempt before you try again and top up your wallet with another payment method in the meantime.

  1. Are you using a prepay credit card?

We accept selected prepay credit cards, but the cards we accept are constantly changing, so we can’t provide a complete list. Keep these two points in mind when trying to use a prepay credit or debit card:

  • Is there enough money on the card?
  • Is your address attached to the card? If not, it’s less likely that you’ll be able to use it.
  1. Do you have a sub account?
