How to set up auto update/download on your PlayStation Vita

This article shows you how to switch on automatic download and updates on your PS Vita and what features it enables.

What is auto-update?

When automatic update/download is switched on your PlayStation system switches itself on from standby mode and searches for PlayStation Network content to update. The content available for auto-update varies according to the table below:

System update Free
Game patch download Free (Detection to download)
Remote download Free (Detection)
Online Storage PlayStation Plus members only
Trophy sync PlayStation Plus members only

How do I activate auto-download/update?

You need to switch on two settings to use auto-download. Please note that you will also need a memory card with enough free space for the download.

  1. Auto download

Go to [Settings] > [PlayStation Network] > ‘Automatic Update Settings’ and tick any of the features you want to use.

  1. Switch on stand-by mode

Press the power button. The screen will shut down and the PS button will blink in blue. The system is now in stand-by mode.

What functions are available with auto-downloads?

  • Game updates (patches) and system software updates are automatically detected. Manual download and install may be required.
  • Games purchased from PlayStation Store via web browser are automatically detected if you have chosen to remotely download them. Manual download and install may be required.
  • Game saves are automatically saved to PlayStation Network so you can pick up where you left off on another PlayStation system. Feature available for PlayStation Plus subscribers only.
  • Trophies are automatically synced to PlayStation Network. Feature available for PlayStation Plus subscribers only.
