PS4: Your Notifications

How to make sure you don’t miss anything on your PS4.

Notifications are how your PS4 lets you know important information. For example, if a download has completed, your PlayStation Plus subscription is about to renew or one of your friends has just gone online.

We’ll let you know when you have a new notification with a pop-up message and you can see more detail by going to [Notifications] on the PS4 home screen.

How to manage notifications

Your Notifications are listed all together with a different icon for each type.

Downloads / Uploads

  • If you have a few downloads/uploads going on at once, they'll be grouped together. Select either Downloads or Uploads to manage them.
  • Downloads always stay at the top of Notifications, even if you receive a new notification.
  • New apps are displayed in the main Notification list with the heading ‘Installed’. You can launch these apps from here or the home screen.

Friend Request

  • Opening a Friend Request in Notifications will re-route you to [Friends], where all Friends options are available. Press (circle) to get back to Notifications.

‘From PlayStation’

  • These are various notifications sent to you by PlayStation. They can include system software updates or other important PlayStation information.

  • You’ll see the Avatar of the player who’s invited you to the event and you’ll get a notification when the event is about to start.

You can manage pop-up messages in [Settings] > [Notifications].

You’ll also see these notifications:

  • Party
  • Uploads
  • Request to Watch Gameplay
  • Game Alerts
  • Trophies
  • Activities

Number of stored Notifications

  • One hundred Notifications can be stored before the oldest will be removed from the list.
  • You may find that up to 30 PlayStation Store notifications will be stored even if you already have 100 notifications.
