In terms of stealth, no one comes close to Sam Fisher. He's quiet; tip-toeing through the most dangerous of locations. He's deadly; utilising an array of hi-tech silenced weaponry. He's invisible; hugging the shadows until he becomes one of them. Just be thankful he's on our side in the war against terrorism.
This time around, the top secret, black ops organisation Echelon sends Sam on a one-man mission to take out an Indonesian terrorist network. Utilising a dazzling array of athletic stealth moves such as the split jump, the latest counter-espionage technology and of course the shadows themselves, Sam must bring the terrorists down or we're all in danger.
This third-person, action game from Ubisoft brings all the great elements of the original Splinter Cell and raises the stakes considerably. The graphics have been completely overhauled so that the world of Tom Clancy has never looked so realistic. Sam looks, moves and reacts like a real person and the world around him - glass, fabric, water - all react as they would in the real world.
The all-important lighting has been updated given an unprecedented level of lighting realism, with swinging light sources, realtime shadows and the inky darkness that Sam loves so much.
For the first time, you can experience all the tension and all the action of Splinter Cell online. In a unique take on multiplayer gaming up to four players (two teams of two) battle it out as either Fisher-like Spies or deadly Mercenary defenders.
Like Sam, the Spies are agile and stealthy. Utilise the shadows, crawl spaces and espionage technology to access the Viral containers (your goal) while keeping tabs on the lethal Merc security.
As the Mercs, you are thrust into a first-person view. You're not as agile as the spies and can't access the crawl spaces they can, but you have technology on your side. Every level is riddled with laser sensors and cameras that if tripped, tip you off to the spies' location. Use your motion tracking headset, electromagnetic view (see if the spy has his night-goggles on) or plain old torch to root out the sneaky spies and waste them with your powerful sub-machine gun.
This is the next evolution of online multiplayer gaming and a stunning single-player game to boot. Step from the shadows and enter the Splinter Cell.
