    The midnight hour

Settling into a new school has never been as challenging as it is in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable on PSP. Not only must you get to know a class full of new faces, but a far darker presence waits to give you a welcome of its own.

When a full moon shines over your new home of Iwatodai, the town’s inhabitants fall into a deep, dreamless sleep as the Dark Hour descends and Gekkoukan High School is overrun run by the Shadows. These nightmarish creatures prey on the minds of the conscious, warping reality and turning the school into a treacherous labyrinth known as Tartarus. Here, endless history lessons are the very least of your worries.

Personas, the powerful alter egos within special students, are the only way the Shadows can be defeated – and you just happen to possess the unprecedented ability to summon multiple Personas at once. Soon after enrolling at Gekkoukan, you are recruited by the Special Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES) as its leader in the battle against the demons.

By day, you’re just a kid looking to find his feet in a new town; at night, you’re the linchpin of a talented squad facing incredible danger. Sometimes in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, sunset brings relief as well as peril…

    School daze

See the terrifying effects of the Dark Hour from two unique perspectives in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable on PSP. At the beginning of the game, you must decide whether to play as an inexperienced teenage boy or a battle-hardened adolescent girl in the campaign to banish the Shadows.

Your choice affects the characters you meet in the game and the items and special equipment available to you. If you’re new to role-playing games, you might want to align yourself with the boy for an introduction which shows you the ropes and dazzles in equal measure.

Choose to experience the game through the girl’s eyes and you’ll notice the subtle addition of new features, such as different Persona characteristics and the way you build up relationships in school. Special items become available to buy, too, presenting you with the opportunity to try out different tactics in battle.

Five difficulty levels ensure there’s a challenge to suit every ability, while sumptuous visual effects transport you right into the heart of this unique adventure.

    Chasing Shadows

Make friends during the day and cut loose when night falls in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, as two distinct play styles slot together to form one multilayered experience.

Swirling, intricate social networks must be negotiated from the clang of the first morning school bell, with every comment and interaction affecting who you can recruit to SEES to help fight off the Shadows. This Social Links system means the stronger your bonds with schoolmates, the more powerful they become at your side in Tartarus.

Forge more Social Links, and you’ll also be able to call upon a greater number of Personas in any encounter. These mighty beings support your regular attacks with their own supercharged strikes, each one erupting from its host to wield an array of skills. This means you can create a potent mix of attacking intent: walls of flame, earthquakes and hammer blows are just some of the ways to exploit an enemy’s particular weakness.

Delve deeper into this mysterious underworld and not only do you inch closer to discovering the terrible secret behind the Dark Hour, you also refine your crusading party. And by doing so, you gain acceptance in the toughest arena of all: school.
